Well, one of the most memorable meals that someone ever cooked for me was on my 15 birthday.
It
was a special occasion of me so my mom wanted to celebrate it with a traditional Vietnamese feast (bữa
tiệc ) , which she prepared by herself.
She started with Pho, a classic Vietnamese noodle soup that's both aromatic (thơm) and flavorful. She
simmered (ninh) the broth (nước dùng, canh) for hours with beef bones, onions, ginger, and other
ingredients, which filled the house with a comforting aroma ( hương thơm) . This dish is very tasty and
especially suitable when eating it in the winter
Next, she made Banh Xeo, a crispy, savory (mặn) pancake filled with shrimp, pork, and bean sprouts
(giá). It's sizzling ( xèo xèo ) as it hits the pan, and the sound is just as delightful as the taste. We
wrapped pieces of the pancake in rice paper along with herbs and lettuce and dipped them in a tangy
fish sauce. The contrast of textures and flavors was absolutely brilliant.
This meal was not just special because of the delicious food, but because of the effort and love my
grandmother put into preparing it. It was a way for her to show her pride and joy for my achievement,
making it a truly memorable celebration.
