Francis Bacon says: Man loves lies.

This suggests that even the truth is more valuable, but


the people love lies. In his essay “Of Truth,” he argues
that people devour lies like candy and reject harsh
truths.

Example:
This applies to modern social media where
the lies are spread like wildfire and the truth is hidden
behind fake profiles and perfect selfies. People hide
their true self beyond fake appearances.

Bacon says:

A mixture of a lie doth ever add pleasure.

Explain:
In these lines Bacon says that the lie often feels
more enjoyable, which is why people accept lies. Truth
is often bitter and harsh, so people avoid truth and prefer
lies.
Example:
In this modern world, politicians make
false promises to win the election. People making false
images to portray themselves as what they are not in true
life. Like an employee, who pretend to work hard but
actually do nothing.

Bacon says:

Truth is like daylight and lie is like candlelight.

Explain:
Lie is like candlelight which portrays people who
love lies and enjoy misleading others. People make fake
pictures to hide their true self. Truth is like daylight that
spreads lasting joy and calmness.

Example:
A person may claim to be a billionaire on
Instagram, but in reality it's broke.
Lie spread faster:
Bacon says that the lie is like the
fieldfire, that spreads faster. E.g a rumor about the
celebrity trend worldwide in minutes, while the truth
takes hours or days to catch up.

Bacon says:

Truth is like pearl 🧋and lie is like a diamond 💎.

Truth may come to the price of the pearl, which

shows best by day, but it won't rise to the price of diamond
or other gemstone that shows best in varied lights.

Truth is harsh:
Truth is harsh so people hide it. People
love lies because they don't want to expose their true self.
E.g. A person used Photoshop to remove acne from their
selfies, hiding his imperfection from followers.

Bacon says:

A lie faces God, and shrinks from man.


Explain:
This suggests that a man who lies to others faces
God and doesn't have any fear of facing God and he
shrinks from man, how many think about him. So, he
chose to speak lies rather than truth.

Conclusion:
Bacon's essay “Of Truth,” still applies
today, especially on social media. People lie, lies spread
fast and truth is hidden. People don't want to expose their
true self. Bacon's words remain true, people prefer lies,
and this preference has severe consequences.
