5.1.1 Mark and transfer the pile points on the ground using steel rods
embedded in concrete.
5.1.2 Mark two reference points with respect to the centre of the pile to
cross check for any possible movement at a later stage.
5.1.3 Locate suitable, free of underground services and obstructions to
construct auger string.
5.2 Method of installation
5.2.1 Mark pile location on site.
5.2.2 Bore the earth with the rotary piling rig fixed with auger of desired
diameter.
5.2.3 Bring casing into position and fix into exact position.
5.2.4 Drive the casing, till the top of the casing reaches the ground, by
pushing vertically using the auger of the pile boring rig.
5.2.5 Replace normal auger with a drilling bucket if there is lot of slush or
ground water
5.2.6 For stabilising the walls of the bore while boring in soft soils insert MS
casing into the bore hole as the boring progresses.
5.2.7 Make a record of time for unit preparation during the boring which will
help to understand the strata. From this record we can understand
whether the hard strata is reached or not at a particular stage.
5.2.8 After the required depth is reached clean the bore using fresh water
5.2.9 Check the depth of bore hole using sounding chain (measuring chain).

5.2.10 Lower down the reinforcement cage (which is prepared as per the
approved Bar bending schedule) into the bore hole. The
reinforcement cage preparation is explained in details at 4.4 below
5.2.11 Lower the tremie pipes upto 150-200 mm above from the pile tip.
5.2.12 After cleaning the bore, remove 1 no. tremie pipe and fix the hopper
with sliding plug or plug plate.
5.2.13 Pour the concrete into the hopper till it gets full with positioning the
plug plate at mouth/joint of the tremie pipe and funnel.
5.2.14 Lift the hopper so that the plug plate opens the tremie pipe mouth
and the concrete is poured in the pile.
5.2.15 During this procedure, ensure that the bottom of tremie pipe doesn’t
touch the bottom of the bore hole.
5.2.16 As the concreting progresses, remove tremie pipes one by one.
Ensure that at no point of time during this procedure, tremie pipe
comes out of the green concrete.
5.2.17 After completion of concrete check the top level of concrete to ensure
proper depth of laitance from cut off level.
5.3 Post Construction
5.3.1 Check the position of each pile shortly after construction.
5.3.2 Ensure that the freshly concreted pile is kept traffic free until the
concrete has achieved sufficient strength.
5.4 Preparation and Lowering of reinforcement cage

5.4.1 Reinforcement cage will be prepared as near the piling location as
practical.
5.4.2 The Reinforcement cage will be tied as per the contract
specification/drawings.
5.4.3 50/75 mm concrete cover blocks will be placed as per specification.
5.4.4 Weld the top of cage with suitable hook for lifting the cage.
5.4.5 Check cage to ensure correct fabrication i.e. diameter of main
reinforcement, staggering of lap zones, spacing of cover
blocks/stirrups/spacers/stiffeners etc.
5.4.6 If required, the upper cage will be lapped as per specification & the
main bars tack welded.
5.4.7 Pile cage will be lowered into the pile borehole by holding the cage
vertical with help of Rig machine/crane with the wire sling attached to
the master rings/ lifting hooks. The final reinforcement cage will be
lowered to the desired depth.
5.5 Concreting
5.5.1 After the cleaning of bore is completed remove one tremie pipe from
top and place funnel for concreting purpose.
5.5.2 Ensure that the concrete slump for tremie method is not less than 170
mm.
5.5.3 Concrete will be poured into the bored pile via a funnel fixed to the
top section of the tremie pipe.

weighted tape after each sip of concrete is placed.
5.5.6 Extract tremie pipe piece by piece as the concrete goes on.
5.5.7 Sampling of concrete specimen/cube is done as per the clause
no:15.2.2 of IS 456:2000
5.5.8 The concrete will be terminated when the concrete level in the bore
reaches above Cut Off Level with an over pour of 300MM above cut
off level.
6.0 QUALITY ASSURANCE & OUALITY CONTROL
6.1 All necessary concrete pre-pour & after-pouring checks lists will be
completed as per contract specification.
6.2 Concrete cube samples shall be cast & tested for 7 & 28 day
compressive strengths as per IS code & contract specification.
7.0 SAFETY PRECAUTIONS.
1. All Underground Services Should be located and made safe. A careful
investigation should be undertaken to ensure there is no cellars
underground water courses or ground condition which could lead to
hazardous situation.
