Reflection: Participating in coaching sessions, meetings, and other collegial discussions


with our school head has been an eye-opening experience that has deepened my
understanding of my role as a teacher—not only as an educator but also as a public
servant bound by professional standards and ethical responsibilities.

These dialogues serve as essential platforms where I am guided to reflect on my


personal teaching practices through the lens of existing laws and regulations, such as
Republic Act No. 9155 (Governance of Basic Education Act), Republic Act No. 4670
(Magna Carta for Public School Teachers), and Republic Act No. 6713 (Code of Conduct
and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees). More significantly, they bring
to life the principles enshrined in the Code of Ethics for Professional Teachers (Resolution
No. 435, s. 1997).

In our discussions, the school head plays a vital role in helping me align my classroom
practices with these legal and ethical frameworks. For instance, I am reminded of the
importance of promoting fairness and respect in the learning environment (Article VIII),
maintaining professionalism in all interactions (Article X), and being accountable not just
to students, but also to colleagues, parents, and the community.

These collegial sessions challenge me to ask myself important questions: Am I upholding


the dignity of the teaching profession? Do my actions reflect the core values of service,
integrity, and commitment? Am I faithfully adhering to policies meant to safeguard the
welfare of my students and the credibility of my profession?

More than just compliance, these conversations inspire a deeper appreciation of why
these rules exist—to protect, to guide, and to elevate the teaching profession. With the
school head’s mentoring and support, I become more mindful of my responsibilities,
more intentional with my decisions, and more committed to continuous professional
growth.

In reflection, I realize that coaching sessions and professional dialogues anchored in


legal and ethical standards are not simply procedural—they are transformational. They
help ensure that my teaching practice not only meets expectations but also honors the
trust that society has placed in us as educators.
