TotalChrom Instrument Control Installation

March 2010

Installation of the TotalChrom Instrument Control IPMs and


Libraries for TotalChrom 6.3.0, 6.3.1, and 6.3.2
This CD contains all IPM’s that have changed since the release of TotalChrom Version 6.3.1.

Note: Turbochrom and TotalChrom versions 6.1.x and 6.2.0 are not compatible with the files on this CD.

1. Insert the installation CD that ships with the new instrument into the CD drive of the TotalChrom
Workstation PC or TotalChrom Client/Server LM Host and Acquire server(s).
2. From My Computer select the CD drive containing this update, navigate to the TotalChrom_v6.3 directory
and run [Link]. When the Welcome screen appears click Next.
Note: If a version currently exists on your computer, a Confirm Uninstall dialog appears with the message “Do
you want to completely remove the selected application and all of its components?” Click OK to completely
uninstall the previous version. It is always good practice to remove an old install before installing a new
version.

3. The files will be installed for each supported version of TotalChrom found on your computer.

4. Click OK, and then on the next screen click Finish.

You can find the files in the penexe/TcWS (or TcCS)/Ver6.x.x/Config/Sys directory as shown below.

5. Start TotalChrom Navigator and login as a manager.


6. From Admin > System Configuration add the Instrument Key and Name and the Port for the LINK. Refer
to the System Manager’s Guide and LINK user’s guide for specific instructions for your versions of
software and LINK.

7. Save the configuration and exit.


8. From TotalChrom Navigator select Configuration from the Build menu.
The following screen appears:

9. Highlight the instrument name and select Configure from the Instrument menu.

10. Select the + to expand the port listings and highlight the desired port. In this example it is Com1.

11. Click the Query Port for Type button until the LINK is identified in the Interface type box, then click
Continue.
12. Select Port A on the left side of the LINK Configuration dialog box. For the Instrument module selection:
a. Series 200 UV/Vis Detector:
 If the UV Detector Serial Number ends in “E” then use the appropriate pump model followed
by v2.

 If the UV Detector Serial Number does not end in an “E” use the appropriate pump model
without the v2 suffix.
 Select Series 200 UV Detector for the Detector module.
 Select the appropriate Autosampler module.
 Select None for the Oven module

b. Clarus 400, 500, or 600 GC:


 Select the Clarus model with or without Autosampler from the choice list. The following
example shows the Clarus 400 with Autosampler.

13. Click the Configure button and confirm the following:
a. Series 200 UV/Vis Detector:
 Confirm lamp type and wavelength range. Click OK, then click Finish
b. Clarus 400, 500, or 600 GC:

 Do not change the default configuration at this time. Click OK, then click Finish
14. When prompted to check communications select No for Series 200 LC and Yes for Clarus GC.
 For a Clarus GC click Yes for each configuration item to accept the changes.
15. Exit the Configuration Editor.
