Background

Lacing/knots are used on aircraft for various purposes:

• Securing tubes/hoses to ensure proper clearance.

• Securing wires into bundles
• For attachment and securing purposes on life rafts/safety equipment.
• Protective.
• Prevent chafing

Notes : Double overhand knot

Step 1. fold line, ensure sufficient length

Notes : Clearance lacing

Installation of lacing tape on pipe runs.

(a) Attach the lines with lacing tape.

(b) Finish the lacing with a reef knot. Tighten the knot.

(c) Make sure that the minimum distance is correct:

(d) Apply BONDING AND ADHESIVE COMPOUNDS on the reef knot and the
ends of the lacing tape.

(e) Make the identification mark with identification tape ABS0653-05 or

Maintenance highlights

INCORRECT ROUTING OF SURVIVAL KIT LANYARD

A B747 operator reported that a survival pack lanyard was installed with a wrong part and
with an incorrect lanyard routing. During the aircraft’s heavy maintenance check, Door 5R’s
survival pack lanyard was found attached to the slide raft’s lanyard with a key ring instead of
a shackle. Further, the survival pack lanyard was routed
incorrectly through the eye ring.

- Maintenance staff has to ensure that sea survival kit’s lanyard should be attached to the
slide raft’s lanyard with a shackle (refer to Figure 7).

- If in doubt of performing the lacing of survival kits, ALWAYS refer to the diagram on
the door bustle or the relevant AMM.

- Maintenance staff should inform customer representative of any anomalies found

during inspection of any safety equipment.
