A presentation package can be defined as a computer software application package that is used to display
information in the form of a slide show to a large audience in a workshop, seminar, etc. It allows graphic images to
be manipulated and inserted into the context of our presentation, thereby promoting easy understanding of the
subject matter. Examples of presentation packages are Microsoft PowerPoint, Corel Presentation, SoftMaker
Presentation, Apple keynote etc.
MICROSOFT POWERPOINT (As a case study)
Microsoft PowerPoint is a commercial presentation package or program developed by Microsoft
Corporation. It is an application software that comes with other applications under office suites.
COMPONENTS OF MICROSOFT POWERPOINT
1. Title Bar: The title bar is at the top of the window. It shows the name of the presentation and the name of
the application.
2. Ribbon: The ribbon is the large strip below the title bar that contains tabs (like Home, Insert, Design, etc.).
Each tab has groups of related commands.
3. Slide pane: This is the area on the left side that shows small versions of all the slides. It helps users quickly
move between slides.
4. Slide Area: The slide area is the large space in the center where you design and edit the current slide.
5. Notes Pane: The notes pane is found below the slide area. It allows the presenter to add notes that can help
them during the presentation, but are not seen by the audience.
6. Status Bar: The status bar is located at the bottom of the window. It displays information like the slide
number, design them, and the zoom slider.
7. Quick Access Toolbar: This is a small toolbar usually above the ribbon that contains common commands like
Save, Undo, and Redo for quick access.
8. View Buttons: These buttons are found at the bottom right of the window. They allow you to change how
you view your presentation (like Normal View, Slide Sorter, Slide Show View).
9. Zoom Slider: The zoom slider lets you zoom in or out of the slide area to work more closely or to see more
of the slide at once.
10. File Tab (Backstage View): The file tab provides options like New, Open, Save, Save As, Print, Share, and
Export. It takes you into the backstage view where you manage your presentation file.
FEATURES OF MICROSOFT POWERPOINT
1. Slide Creation: PowerPoint allows users to create individual slides. Each slide can contain text, images,
charts, videos, and other multimedia to make a presentation more interesting.
2. Templates and Themes: PowerPoint offers built-in templates and design themes. These help users quickly
create professional-looking slides without designing from scratch.
3. Animations: PowerPoint provides animation effects that allow objects like text, pictures, and shapes to move
on the slide. This makes the presentation more lively and engaging.
4. Slide Transitions: Slide transitions are special visual effects used when moving from one slide to another.
PowerPoint offers various transition styles to make presentations smoother.
5. Multimedia Support: PowerPoint allows users to insert audio clips, video clips, and record narrations. This
helps to add more life and explanation to the slides.
6. Slide Show Presentation: PowerPoint has a slide show mode that displays the slides full screen. It shows
how the presentation will appear to the audience during an actual event.
7. Hyperlink and Action Buttons: PowerPoint allows users to insert hyperlinks and action buttons that can
connect to another slide, a web page, or an external document during the presentation.
8. Printing and Exporting Options: PowerPoint enables users to print handouts, slides, or note pages. It can
also export presentations into different formats like PDF, video, or images.
SOME OPERATIONS IN MICROSOFT POWERPOINT
1. Creating slides: To create a new slide, click on the insert tab and click on new slide, OR right click on the
default slide and click on new slide.
2. Inserting a picture into your slide: Click on the insert tab, click pictures, and select either from online or from
your computer.
3. Inserting audio and videos into your files: Click on the insert tab, click videos or audios, and select either
from online or from your computer.
