the total amount collected?
Solution:
Number of students in the school = 476
Amount brought by one student =₹25
Amount collected by the students = 476 × ₹25 = ₹11,900

2. If one shirt costs ₹450, what will be the cost of 126 such shirts?
Solution:
Cost of one shirt = ₹450
Cost of 126 shirts = 126 × ₹450

892 people watch the movie?
Solution:
Cost of a movie ticket = ₹ 175
Number of people watch the movie = 892
Amount of money collected by the movie hall= 892 × ₹ 175

Out of 2500 x 35 houses in a town, 1600x17 houses have rainwater harvesting. How
many houses do not have rain water harvesting? What are the benefits of rain
water harvesting system?
Solution:
Number of houses in a town = 2500 × 35=87,500
Number of houses that have rainwater harvesting = 1600 × 17 = 27,200
Number of houses which do not have rain water harvesting = 87,500- 27,200
=60,300
Benefits of rain water harvesting:
1. Rainwater harvesting helps collect and store rainwater for later use.
2. Stored rainwater can be used to water plants, gardens, and crops,
especially during dry seasons. It supports sustainable agriculture.

In IPL, there are 10 cricket teams. Each team has 11 players. How many players are
there in total?
Solution:
Number of cricket teams in the IPL = 10
Number of players in each team = 11
Total number of players = 10 × 11= 110
CRITICAL THINKING:
Find the product of the smallest 4- digit number and the greatest 5-digit number.
Solution:
Smallest 4-digit number= 1000
Greatest 5- digit number= 99,999
Product = 99,999 × 1000 = 9,99,99,000
REAL-LIFE APPLICATION:
There are 4623 children in a school run by an orphanage. A company donated 25
notebooks to each child. How many notebooks did the company donate in all?
Solution:
Number of children in the school = 4623
Number of books donated to each child = 25
Number of notebooks donated in all = 4623 × 25 =1,15,575

HIGHER ORDER THINKING QUESTIONS (HOTS):
a. 76,392 is 4,882 more than . What is the difference between and the
product of 68 and 6?
Solution:
4882 + =76,392
So, = 76,392 – 4882= 71,510
Product of 68 and 6 = 68×6 =408
Difference = 71,510- 408 = 71,102
b. Nihal has ₹1500 . He wants to purchase 18 sacks of rice. The cost of a sack
of rice is ₹150. How much more money does he need?
Solution:
Amount of money Nihal has = ₹1,500
Cost of a sack of rice = ₹150
Cost of 18 sacks of rice = ₹150×18 = ₹2,700
Amount of money he needs more = ₹2,700-₹1,500=₹1,200
