WHAT IS AN ESSAY?
• A piece of writing several paragraphs long. It is about one topic.

• In general, an academic essay has three parts:


o An introduction that gives the reader an idea of what they are about to learn and presents an
argument in the form of a thesis statement.
o A body, or middle section, that provides evidence used to prove and persuade the reader to
accept the writer's particular point of view.
o A conclusion that summarizes the content and findings of the essay.
SUFFIXES
• a letter or a group of letters attached to the end of a word to form a new word or to change its
part of speech.
• -ness (Kindness, Sadness)= Kind, Sad

• -ize (realize)= real

• -ive (interactive)= interact

• Identifying Nouns and Noun Suffixes


• -ment (improvement, development, punishment)
• -ance (performance)
• -tion (seperation, education)
• EXAMPLE PHRASES
These phrases will help you to construct your paragraph clearly.

• In conclusion, • One prediction is that…
• To conclude, • If this continues, it could lead to…
• To sum up, • An implication of this is the possibility that …
• Recommendation / Suggestion: • Solutions:
