Theme: Suffering, Rejection, and Human Attitudes
A. Learning Objectives
Through this assignment, students are expected to:
1. Understand that suffering is an inseparable part of human life.
2. Identify positive and negative attitudes in facing suffering.
3. Develop empathy, solidarity, and moral responsibility toward others.
4. Reflect on universal human values taught in all religions and beliefs.
B. Case Study Narrative
Title: “Choosing an Attitude in Times of Pressure”
Raka is a ninth-grade student known as a calm and hardworking person. One day, he was appointed as the
leader of a group project at school. However, when the project failed because several group members did not
complete their responsibilities properly, Raka became the target of the teacher’s disappointment and his
classmates’ mockery.
Some classmates blamed Raka for being too weak as a leader. On social media, he even received hurtful and
unfair comments. Raka felt pressured, disappointed, and angry. He had several choices: to respond with anger,
to blame others, to withdraw from social life, or to remain calm and see k a peaceful solution.
In the midst of this difficult situation, Raka remembered the teachings of his religion about patience,
forgiveness, and responsibility. He began to reflect: should suffering be answered with hatred, or can it become
an opportunity for personal growth and maturity?
