To save you a ton of work, I have added a 100 grouping
patterns here.

Sometimes it is nice to sit around and come up with your own


patterns, mixing groupings or just coming up with things on
the spot.

BUT, it is also VERY nice and inspiring to just grab a pattern


from the list and throw it around on the drumkit. It allows you
to start creating right away.

I have to say: not all patterns will fit your playing situation.
Sometimes adjusting the pattern by just 1 note, can make it
perfect for your situation.

Because, let’s NOT forget: the grouping system is the


FRAMEWORK to play anything YOU want. Make it so that it
works for you!! THAT is the fun about this system!
When looking at the list, always think of this:

Combine patterns! Picking 1 pattern is cool, but what if you


put 2 different patterns of the SAME grouping number
together? Try it out, go crazy! Check out the ultimate
freedom book for mixing the groupings.
Play dynamically. Play 1 accent, play 2 accents, play
everything soft, play everything loud. And so on. Dynamics
are EVERYTHING to the drummer!
Move your hands around! Use everything that you have!
Replace a hit with your kick. Using your feet is AWESOME!
Although some patterns already have a kick, see what
happens if you add another...
Extend or shorten. Add a kick once, add 1 R or L in between
two patterns or make the pattern a beat shorter. PLAY
WITH IT
Start & Stop. To get free around the kit you HAVE to learn
how to start and stop your groupings anywhere in a bar.
