Date: 31/1/2025
Duration: 40 minutes
Previous knowledge: The students are familiar with the male reproductive organ.
Behavioural Objectives: By the end of the lesson, the students should be able:
i. identify the female reproductive organ
ii. mention the functions of the female reproductive organ
iii. define the terms in reproduction
Introduction: The students are asked to mention the male reproductive organ
Methodology: Discussion method, interactive model Content:
Female Reproductive System
This also consists of external and internal parts.
External parts
1. Vulva: consists of labia majors or outer lips and labia minora
It permits the passage of urine out of the body
It permits passage of fetus during birth
It allows the passage of penis into the vagina
2. Clitoris: is located just above the vagina and urethral opening
It helps to stimulate the female during sexual intercourse
3. Hymen: it is a thin membrane which protects or covers the vaginal opening
It gives extra protection to vagina opening
4. Vaginal opening: it is an outlet for passage of menstrual flow and baby (foetus) during birth
It receives sperm from the penis
It also allows the passage of foetus during birth
5. Urethral opening: it is a small opening above the vaginal opening
It aids in the passage of urine
Internal parts
1. Cervix: it is the mouth of the womb. It is the lower part of the uterus leading to the vagin
It controls the opening and closing of the vagina especially during birth
2. Fallopian tube or oviduct: it is a long narrow tube with a funnel-shaped opening which receives
eggs released by the ovary. It links the ovary with the uterus.
Fertilization takes place in the fallopian tube. It is the tube through which the egg pass through from
the ovary to the uterus
3. Ovaries: are organs on either side of the uterus where egg cells are produced
Functions
They produce eggs or ova.
They produce female sex hormones called estrogen and progesterone.
4. Uterus or womb: It is pear-shaped
This is the place where embryo or foetus develops
Terms in Reproduction
1. Fertilization: it is the process by which male gametes (sperm) fuses with the ovum (egg) to form
zygote.
2. Zygote: it is a fertilized egg.
3. Foetus: it is an unborn baby in the womb.
4. Ovulation: this is the process by which featured egg leaves the ovary and gets to the fallopian
tube. It occurs 14 days before the next menstrual bleeding.
Presentation of Lesson

Step II: The teacher introduces the new topic
Step III: The teacher asks the students questions
Step IV: The students answer the teacher's questions and ask questions for clarity
Evaluation
