This section contains Six multiple choice questions. Each question has four choices (A), (B), (C) and (D) for
its answer, Out of which ONE OR MORE is/are correct.

1. A particle moves along X-axis. The force Fx acting on it depends on

position x of the particle as shown in the figure. Then,
(A) the work done by the force Fx for a displacement from x = 0 to
x = 5m is 250 J
(B) the work done by the force Fx for a displacement from x = 0 to
x = 10m is zero
(C) the work done by the force Fx for a displacement from x = 5m
to x = 10m is – 250 J
(D) none of the above

2. Choose the correct statement(s) from the following:

(A) force acting on a particle for equal time intervals can produce the same change in momentum but
different change in kinetic energy
(B) force acting on a particle for equal displacements can produce same change in kinetic energy but
different change in momentum
(C) force acting on a particle for equal time intervals can produce different change in momentum but
same change in kinetic energy
(D) force acting on a particle for equal displacements can produce different change in kinetic energy
but same change in momentum

3. The kinetic energy of a particle continuously increases with time. Then

(A) the resultant force on the particle must be parallel to the velocity at all instants
(B) the resultant force on the particle must be at an angle less than 90° with velocity all the times
(C) its height above the ground level must continuously decrease
(D) the magnitude of its linear momentum is increasing continuously

4. A body of mass 1 kg is taken from infinity to a point P. When the body reaches that point, it has a
speed of 2ms-1 . The work done by the conservative force is -5 J . Which of the following is true
(assuming non-conservative and pseudo-forces to be absent).
(A) work done by the applied force is +7 J
(B) the total energy possessed by the body at P is +7 J
(C) the potential energy possessed by the body at P is +5 J
(D) work done by all forces together is equal to the change in kinetic energy


5. ( )
A particle is acted upon by a conservative force F = 7 iˆ - 6 ˆj N (no other force is acting on the
particle). Under the influence of this force particle moves from (0, 0) to (-3m, 4m) then:
(A) work done by the force is 3 J
(B) work done by the force is -45 J
(C) at (0, 0) speed of the particle must be zero
(D) at (0, 0) speed of the particle must not be zero

6. A block of mass m is pulled by an external agent by an a
inextensible string at point P as shown in the figure. v

(A) Kinetic energy of the block is
50
mav m
(B) Power delivered by the external agent is
25
(C) Total power delivered by the string is zero
(D) Work done by the string on the block is non-zero

SECTION–2 (Maximum Marks: 24)

Numerical Value Type
This section contains Eight questions. The answer to each of the questions is a Numerical value.
For each question, enter the correct numerical value of the answer using the mouse and the on-screen virtual
numeric keypad in the place designated to enter the answer. If the numerical value has more than two
decimal places, truncate/round-off the value to TWO decimal places.

7. A body of mass 5 kg is projected vertically up with 980 J energy. The ratio of potential energy to
kinetic energy is 1:3. Find the height above the ground in meter.

8. A block of mass, 1 kg is attached to three unstretched springs of

spring constants k1 = 40 N m , k 2 = 15 N m and k3 = 45 N m as
shown in the given figure. The block is displaced towards left on the
horizontal smooth surface through a distance 10 cm and is
released. Find maximum speed during its motion in m/s.

9. The system as shown in the figure is released from rest. The pulley, spring and
string are ideal and friction is absent everywhere. If speed of 5 kg block when 2 kg
block leaves the contact with ground is 2 x m s , then value of x is: (spring constant
2
k = 40N m and g = 10m s )

10. A body constrained to move along z-axis of a co-ordinate system is subjected to a constant force F

given by F  (2î  4 ĵ  3k̂ ) N. The work done by the force in moving the body by a distance of 6m
along the z – axis is 9x , where x is

11. An engine pumps water continuously through a hose pipe of area of cross section 2x10 m . The
–1
water comes out with a velocity of 2 ms . The power supplied to the water is 4x . Then the value of
x is

12. Block A of mass 1kg is placed on the rough surface of block 8m/sec
B of mass 3 kg. Block B is placed on smooth horizontal A
surface. Blocks are given the velocities as shown. Find net work B 4 m/sec
done by the frictional force. [ in (–) ve J ]

13. A block of mass 'm' is attached with a spring in its natural length
of spring constant k. The other end ' A ' is moved with an
acceleration 'a' , away from the block. Find maximum elongation
xma
