What’s In
To refresh you with what you had learned about the lesson,
please answer the activity below.

Activity

Directions: Rearrange the jumbled letters to form the correct word

being described in each sentence. Write the word formed in the blank.
Do it in your notebook.

____________ 1. LNETEMSE ETH FO TAR – The building blocks or

Ingredients of art.

____________ 2. TAR EHT SELPICNIRP FO- What we use to orga-

What’s New
Below are different examples of technology and the visual arts that
you as a young learner could learn.

Commercial Art

Logo Designing Using Pixel Art

Page 3 0f 10
Drawing Using Inkscape

All of these show that art is around you and that art
elements and art principles still apply in new technologies.
When artists apply good design, it results to effective visual
communication which can inform and entertain.

What Is It
Read:

New technologies has a lot of advantages. It is portable. You don’t

need to carry all your art materials or sketchbooks in one big bag or in
different bags. All these materials are part of the features in your
smartphone, tablet, or laptop, which can bring with you wherever you go.
Click on each material and you will discover how versatile they are.
There are different kinds of lines, shapes, and colors to choose from.

ELEMENTS AND PRINCIPLES OF ART
What’s the difference of the two?

The elements of design can be thought of as the things that make up

an art work (the ingredients).
The principles of a design are ways to organize the elements of
design.
How we apply the principles of designs determines how successful we
are in creating a work of art.
Line- an elongated mark
*Types of Line:
Horizontal/ vertical/ diagonal/ jagged/ smooth/ squiggly/
calligraphic (varying thickness)
Value- using shading to make things look 3D: amount of light (tint) and
dark (shade)
Variety- light -------------> dark
White ----------->black
Colour- reflected light
Types of Colour:
primary (red, blue, yellow)
secondary (purple, green, orange)
tertiary (red- violet, blue- violet, blue-green, yellow- green)

Colour Relationships:
analogous (neighbours; blue & blue-green, yellow & yellow- orange)
complementary (opposites; blue-orange, red-green, purple-yellow)
monochromatic (using tints and shades of one colour)

Shape- a two-dimensional enclosed area

Types of Shape:
geometric (controlled, regular)
organic (natural, free-flowing)
symmetrical (same on both sides)
Form- three- dimensional shape; enclosed volume
Page 5 0f 10
Space- the area an object takes up, or the distance between objects

Types of Space
positive space (filled in)
negative space (empty)

The principles of design are ways to organize the elements of design.

Ex. You can place different colours next to each other to create a
specific effect.
When used well, an artist creates an interesting composition
(arrangement of things)

Balance- spreading things out evenly

Types of Balance:
Formal (symmetrical)
Informal (asymmetrical)
Radial (growing from a centre point)

Contrast- clashing; placing different elements next to each other.

Proportion- comparative size, relative size
Pattern- evenly repeated images
Rhythm/Movement- movement caused by unevenly repeating an
element.
Emphasis/Focus- creating a centre of attention
Unity- matching, harmony, likeness, similarity
Variety- having different types of one element
Composition- the plan, placement or arrangement in an art work.
Composition causes a response from the viewer.

What’s More
Activity:
Materials: graphing paper, pencil, ruler, coloring materials (colored
pens and pencils, crayons, or water medium
Read and understand the directions:
1. Imagine a drawing or picture you want to make.
2. Using a pencil draw your work on a graphing paper.
3. Remember the simple rules in making a Pixel Art, start coloring
each box of the graphing paper with the color of your choice.
One box, one color. There are no half colored boxes.
4. Be sure the elements and principles of arts were present.
5. Explain the drawing or picture that you have made in 1-5
sentences.

What I Have Learned

Activity: Direction: Look at the given picture carefully and answer the
following questions.

2. What elements of the art are present? principles?

What I Can Do

Self Assessment

1. What was the point of today’s lesson?

2. How do elements and principles art work together?

Assessment
Directions: Read the questions carefully and write your answers in
