Sample Project

This survey analyzes the average daily mobile phone usage among 20 students, revealing an average of 4.74 hours with a standard deviation of 1.44 hours. The data indicates that most respondents use their phones between 4 to 6 hours daily, with some outliers on either end. Visualizing the data with a normal curve aids in understanding usage trends and identifying patterns.

Survey on Average Daily Mobile Phone Usage

Introduction / Background

In today’s digital age, mobile phone usage has become a daily habit for many. This study
aims to explore the average daily mobile phone usage of students and analyze the data using
basic statistical methods, including constructing a normal curve.

Methodology / Data Collection

1. The learner created a simple survey using Facebook Messenger.

2. Facebook friends were asked the following questions:
o Age
o Average daily mobile phone usage (in hours)
3. A total of 20 respondents participated in the survey.
4. The collected data were recorded and organized in a table.

Summary Statistics:

 Mean (µ): 4.74 hours

 Standard Deviation (σ): 1.44 hours

Graph: Normal Curve and Histogram

The histogram and normal curve below show the distribution of average daily mobile phone
usage:

 Blue Bars: Histogram of the 20 respondents

 Red Curve: Normal distribution using the calculated mean and standard deviation
Interpretation
 Most respondents use their mobile phones around 4–6 hours per day, as shown by the
peak of the curve.
 A few respondents have lower usage (around 2–3 hours) or higher usage (around 7
hours), which slightly skews the histogram.
 The normal curve gives a visual representation of the probability distribution of
phone usage, which is useful for understanding trends in the data.

Conclusion
From this survey:

 The average daily phone usage among respondents is approximately 4.74 hours.
 Visualizing the data using a normal curve helps identify patterns, typical values, and
outliers in the dataset.

This small-scale survey provides a basic but meaningful insight into daily mobile phone habits
of the learners’ network.

NOTE: You still need to show your solution for how to calculate the
mean, variance, and standard deviation using your data.
