Limits are frequently applied using algebraic expressions. This module will teach us
about non-algebraic expressions known as transcendental functions.
Transcendental functions include exponential, logarithmic, and trigonometric functions.
These functions are sometimes referred to as special functions because their behavior and
relationships with other functions represent an infinite series, implying that they cannot be
used as a finite solution for algebraic equations.

1. EXPONENTIAL FUNCTION

An exponential function is one that increases or decreases without boundaries and


can be written in the form f(x) = bx, where b is any real number other than one(1).
To evaluate the limit of exponential functions, let us revisit some important concepts
about exponential functions.

Definition: An exponential function in the form f(x) = b x is a mathematical equation in


which the exponent is a variable.
