This dual expertise allows Gennum to offer innovative products that are not only technologically superior but also cost-efficient, providing a competitive edge in an industry that is increasingly adopting optical fiber solutions for enhanced performance and flexibility .

Gennum's video processing solutions are ideal for next-generation broadcast formats due to their comprehensive integration of advanced features such as descrambling, ancillary data extraction, error detection, and correction. These capabilities ensure high fidelity and quality of video signals under various conditions and standards. Moreover, their solutions support both Level A and Level B SMPTE 424M and 425M formats, providing necessary flexibility for advanced 1080p 50/60 applications . The company's focus on reducing jitter and power consumption further solidifies their solutions as optimal choices for modern, high-performance broadcasting systems .

Gennum's serializers provide flexibility and performance advantages by including integrated audio embedder support for AES, I2S, and serial audio formats, making them suitable for use in cameras, camera control units, multiviewers, routers, production switchers, and master control switchers . They are designed to effectively reduce jitter due to the integrated PLL with narrow loop bandwidth, which ensures the generation of low jitter, SMPTE-compliant SDI signals . Furthermore, Gennum serializers are power and area-efficient, combining high-level integration to offer the lowest power consumption and smallest size necessary for implementing an SDI or ASI link .

Gennum's innovations in cable drivers, particularly the introduction of Cable Boost™ technology, significantly impact the distance and quality of video signal transmission by enabling longer cable runs while maintaining signal integrity. This advancement allows transmission distances of up to 600m for SD rates, 500m for HD rates, and enhances the reach at 3G to 200m, improving connectivity and flexibility for broadcast setups . The improved equalization capabilities facilitate high-quality video signal transmission over extended distances, ensuring minimal degradation and high reliability regardless of the application .

ClockCleaner technology plays a crucial role in reducing jitter on video clocks to meet SMPTE specifications, ensuring high-quality video signal integrity necessary for broadcast video solutions. The GS4915 ClockCleaner, in particular, reduces jitter typically to 20ps, significantly enhancing compliance with 3Gb/s SDI requirements when used with a serializer . By providing flexible input and output frequencies and levels, ClockCleaner technology enhances compatibility across various video and audio standards, allowing seamless integration in diverse systems . This ensures that video signals remain stable and reliable, directly impacting the broadcast quality and performance .

Non-blocking crosspoint switches play a pivotal role in enhancing broadcast video infrastructures by providing unmatched scalability and flexibility. Gennum's crosspoint switches, with up to 290 inputs and outputs, offer the largest asynchronous, fully non-blocking switches in the industry, which are essential for complex broadcast systems . These modules offer enhanced mechanical designs with superior latching mechanisms, ensuring secure connection and longevity. Additionally, with a user-writable EEPROM, manufacturers can program specific module information that helps in equipment identification and compatibility . The design improvements contribute to shorter reach optical applications that demand high performance, marking a step forward in optical data transmission technology for the broadcast industry .

The introduction of CWDM (Coarse Wavelength Division Multiplexing) by Gennum transforms broadcast optical infrastructures by enabling the transmission of multiple data streams over a single fiber, significantly enhancing bandwidth utilization without the need for multiple fiber links. This technology uses optical MUX and DeMUX to combine and separate signals at different wavelengths, allowing for greater transmission efficiency and reduced infrastructure costs . CWDM's ability to transmit signals over longer distances, up to 50 km, while maintaining signal integrity makes it particularly advantageous in reducing latency and increasing capacity in broadcast environments . This integration of advanced optical solutions positions Gennum as a key player in providing robust performance in mission-critical broadcast applications .

The integration of adaptive equalizers in Gennum's deserializers provides significant benefits for broadcast infrastructure by reducing PCB component footprint and power requirements while allowing for longer cable runs without degradation in signal quality. This integration results in improved signal integrity and minimized errors over extended transmission distances, which is crucial for high-quality broadcast applications . This makes Gennum deserializers not only space and energy efficient but also critical in maintaining performance standards over various cable types and conditions .
