In some countries, many more children are choosing to live alone nowadays than

in the past. Do you think this is a positive or negative development?

In this modern life, there are many more children living independently than in the past.
Thus, many people wonder that whether this is advantageous or disadvantageous. From
my point of view, this change has both positive and negative effects.
On the one hand, there are some drawbacks of a large number of children make a choice
to live alone. Firstly, living alone when children are too young causes them to face a lot
of difficulties that they need not have done. If they are not able to overcomeand their
parents are not on hand, children’s psychologies will surely be affected during a long
period of time. Besides, without parents’ elaborate supervision and education, children
may misunderstand about a few aspects of life or social social behavior standards. This
results in the ability of making judgements of everything surrounding them along with
making important decisions through their lives seriously. There are disadvantages but it is
not true for everyone.
On the other hand, living alone at the early age is extremely beneficial for the children.
To begin with, children become more self-reliant and mature when they live without aid
from adults. They will learn how to protect and care for themselves better. For example,
my cousin who lives himself is very good at many things such as cooking meals, doing
the housework, repairing his bicycle, ect… In contrast, I who live with parents up to now
know none of these. Moreover, many more parents agree their kids to live alone than in
the old days. This is because when they live independently, they can gain more
knowledge about the real life as well as experience and improve their practical skills day
to day. These are very useful for their future later. For instance, lack of parents’ support
force children to addess the problems on their own, avoid making the same mistakes
without any reminders. With these skills, they can not only achieve the goal more easily
but also get promotion more quickly in their fields.
In conclusion, no one can ensure that more children are choosing to live alone nowadays
than in the past has solely positive or negative impacts on them. But, I think, the best
thing we can do is maximising the merits and minimising the demerits of this
development.
