Good morning, To our esteemed Principal Mam, Vice Principal mam,
to all the respected teachers and to my fellow classmates. Before
getting over to the topic, I would like to introduce myself. I am
Swagata Sarkar belonging to Class seven A of ST. Joan’s school. I
want to express my gratitude to respected Reema Dey mam and to all
of my beloved teachers who have left no stone unturned to guide me
while compiling this project. I also want to thank the school authority
for giving me a chance to showcase my creative and innovative skills.
Today I have got the opportunity to speak for the fact that all the
students should learn to perform household chores. Well according to
me children should be taught to perform chores after a certain age
because learning to do chores from a young age can give rise to
various qualities inside a child which might prove to be very helpful
for them throughout their lives. Now, let us know what are those
advantages of chores done by children so that each child should be
encouraged to perform a task.
First of all, chores help teach life skills. This kind of education of
completing chores and tasks are not something that is to be provided
by the school curriculum. Such lessons are to be taught to the child by
his/her guardians at home. This knowledge can really help children to
be successful in running a house in their near future, they learn to
manage time, money and everything, which is very important to bring
progress in life. By doing several chores and learning life lessons and
skills also help children to plan better regarding any case or situation
of life.
Secondly, we know that chores help kids learn responsibilities and
self-reliance. Today being self-reliable and independence is very
important to achieve a great position anywhere in life. Also, while
doing chores children feeling very energetic and mature which gives
them the energy to perform more and they start completing their own
tasks on time on their own. It is very true indeed that helping around
the house can really help children to feel proud about their
achievements. It also makes them happy as they feel that they are also
a very important part of the family and have the right to contribute to
the house instead of being a bystander.
Thirdly, chores help teach team work. Team work involves listening
to others, depending on orders, trusting, working together etc. which
helps a child to gain confidence. Team work skills appear to be very
useful for school or work purposes. Chores also put everyone on an
equal footing, so children learn to be a part of the team and help as
they feel ownership and responsibility. Also, doing chores at home
under the supervision of parents, the mistakes of children are forgiven
very easily which makes it easier for them to learn from their
mistakes.
Next, I think that chores help reinforce respect. Making children do
chores can set live examples for them to understand the hard work
and efforts required to complete a [Link] builds a feel of respect and
appreciation in every child's mind for not only their parents but for
everyone whom they see doing work. As children become responsible
and good planners, they become aware of the messes they create and
feel it a duty to clean it up by themselves.
Chores help build a strong work ethic. I believe that understanding
work ethic is very important for one to focus in his/her job. So, it is
better to make children understand work ethic as soon as possible. As
we know that children are excited with anything and everything so
paying kids or giving them pocket money for a particular job well
done can be very encouraging for them to learn to do more work. It
also brings confidence in a child to grow up and work somewhere
outside the house.
We have to admit that chores help improve planning and time
management skills. Chores give them a practice of doing things on
time and makes them a bit experienced which helps them in future for
various situations. They also learn to judge their decisions and plans
from different point of views and consider it as right or wrong before
execution. This feeling of engagement into different chores can give
rise to an entrepreneurial spirit.
Most importantly, chores give families a chance to bond. Nowadays
people become so busy in their work that they forget to give time to
each other and sharing a task and bound them to be free and talk to
each other. Chores give a chance to children to open up in front of
their parents. They improve their relationship and make their bond
stronger. Kids also stop feeling ignored and bored by their guardians.
So, we can see that there are various positive impacts on child that
can happen as a result of building a habit of making children do
chores. But as every single thing, making children perform chores
also has a bad side.
We know that in today's world children have a lot of pressure of
schoolwork such as projects, home works and several other things and
giving them an extra task of performing chores can be challenging for
them and they might be the prey of stress, tension and anxiety and
various other problems. Sometimes parents also appear to be very
strict and criticizing over every small mistake of the child. This
should be prevented. Also, chores can be hazardous for small children
as they have a risk of getting hurt. Sometimes chores can be a
nightmare for a kid as well. Parents should keep a check that being
too strict and making the children extremely mannered and teaching
them too many life lessons at once might not spoil their childhood.
But still, if we see overall, doing chores is proving to be profitable for
any student. Hence, I think that every single student should be
encouraged to do chores.
Last but not the least, I am very grateful to my school and my parents
without whose constant support this project of mine would never have
been successful specially during this tough pandemic situation.
THANK YOU!
