The Main Components


Core Idea

A student-centered education model.

Focuses on what students can actually DO by the end of
the program.
●
All planning, teaching, and assessment is driven by clear,
demonstrable outcomes.
The Three Levels of Outcomes

1) PEOs - Program Educational Objectives


– Long-term goals (3-5 years after graduation).
– Question: What will our graduates become? (e.g., successful engineers, managers, researchers).

2) PLOs - Program Learning Outcomes


– What students achieve at graduation.
– Question: What skills & knowledge must you demonstrate? (e.g., design, problem-solving, teamwork).

3) CLOs - Course Learning Outcomes


– Specific, measurable outcomes for each course.
– Question: What should you be able to do after this specific course?

The Continuous Improvement Cycle (Closing the Loop)

The Heart of OBE

This is a continuous, cyclical process:
1) Define the Outcomes (PLOs/CLOs).
2) Implement through teaching and learning.
3) Assess student performance.
4) Analyze the results and identify gaps.
5) ACT & IMPROVE the program, courses, or teaching methods.

"Closing the Loop" is using assessment data to make meaningful improvements, ensuring the program gets better
every year.
