ADDICTION

What is an addiction:
Addiction is a condition where you cannot stop using a substance or repeating a behavior,
even when you know it causes harm. Your brain changes how it reacts to pleasure and stress.
Because of this, you feel a strong need to repeat the action. You may want to stop, but you
struggle to control yourself.

Types of addiction:
There are substance addictions such as alcohol, drugs, and nicotine. These substances affect
your brain and body directly. There are also behavior addictions such as gambling, gaming,
and social media. These do not involve substances, but they still change how your brain
works and how you spend your time and money.

The cycle:
Addiction often starts when you try something for the first time because of curiosity or
pressure from others. You repeat it because it makes you feel good or helps you escape stress.
Over time, your brain needs more to feel the same effect. This leads to dependence and loss
of control.

Rehabilitation:
Recovery begins when you admit that there is a problem. You can seek help from doctors,
therapists, or counselors. Rehab programs can help you change habits and learn coping skills.
Therapy and medication can reduce cravings and support long term recovery.

Signs of addiction:
Signs of addiction include losing control over your behavior and failing to stop. You may
hide what you do from others. Addiction can harm your health and cause changes in mood,
behavior, and relationships.
