1. Definition of Procedure Text
Procedure text is a text that explains, informs, or helps the reader on how to
make or use something.
2. Purpose of Procedure Text
The purpose of procedure text is to show how something is made/used/done
through sequence of steps.
3. Generic Structure of Procedure Text
The structure of a procedural text consists of three parts, namely goal, materials
and steps.
Goal : Goal is a procedural text structure that explains the purpose or
objective.
Materials : Materials is a procedural text structure that explains the tools
and materials needed.
Steps : The next procedural text structure is steps, which contains steps or
instructions for making or doing something.
4. Languange Features of Procedure Text
Simple present tense
Procedure text must be written using Simple Present Tense. This is because
in procedure text there are command sentences regarding how to make or
do something.
Imperative Sentence (Kalimat Perintah)
Because the majority of the content of this text is instructions, you will find
imperative sentences which begin with a verb.
Connectives (Kata Penghubung)
Connectives are used in procedural text to link steps so that the list of
instructions is coherent and easy to understand. Examples: Firstly,
secondly, then, after that, and finally.
Adverb (Kata Keterangan)
Adverbs are used to indicate time. There are two types of adverbs used in
procedural texts:
- Adverbs of time indicate how long something takes. Examples: in 10
minutes, for 1 hour.
- Adverbs of manner indicate how to do something. Examples: slowly,
well, evenly.
5. Kinds of Procedural Text
- Procedural text explains how to operate/use something. Examples
include how to use an air fryer, how to use a dish washer, or how to use
a camera.
- Procedural text provides instructions for performing a specific activity.
Examples include how to play the violin, how to create a website, and
how to make rendang.
6. Example of Procedural Text
How to Make Bregedel Tempe
Ingredients:
150 g tempe
1 egg
1 tablespoon flour
1 spoon seasoning stock
1 cup vegetable oil for frying
Steps:
1. Mash the tempe with a fork.
2. Put the mashed tempe in a bowl and mix with the flour and seasoning stock,
followed by an egg.
3. Shape the tempe into the size of a golf ball and flatten it a little with a fork.
4. Heat the vegetable oil in a medium flame. When the oil is hot, drop the tempe
into the oil, five or six at a time.
5. Fry until golden brown on both sides, drain on absorbent paper, and serve hot
with chili or sauce.
