Performance Standards: The Learner is able to communicate mathematical thinking with coherence
and clarity in formulating, investigating, analyzing, and solving real life problems involving triangle
inequalities, and parallelism and perpendicularity of lines using appropriate and accurate
representations.

I. Learning Objectives
At the end of discussion the students are expected to attain at least 75%
proficiency level on the following:
Specific Objectives:
a. Determine relationships that exist between the angles and sides of triangles;
b. Demonstrate understanding the triangle inequality theorem (Theorem 1
Ss→Aa, Theorem 2 Aa→Ss, and Theorem 3 S s1+ S s2> S s3 ); and
c. Solve the unknown or the missing part of a triangle using triangle inequality
theorem with fluency.

= 4(7) − 2

𝐺𝐻 = 𝑥 + 2

= 9 𝑢𝑛𝑖𝑡𝑠

Triangle Inequality
Theorem 3 (S1 + S2 >
S3)

The sum of the lengths of

→ 11 > 5 (true)
a+c>b→4+5>7
4 mm, 7 mm, and 5 mm. → 11 > 7 (true)
Let: b+c>a→7+5>4
a = 4 mm → 12 > 4 (true)
b = 7 mm
c = 5 mm

Since all conditions are


true, it is possible to form
a triangle with the given
measurements.

EXAMPLE:
Given the measurements;
6 cm, 10 cm, and 17 cm.
Check if the three a + b > c → 6 + 10 > 17
measurements can form a → 16 > 17 (false)

a = 6 cm
b = 10 cm
c = 17 cm
