What if Marvel’s wildest ideas — alternate realities, timelines, and time travel — weren’t
just fiction? What if they mirrored real science? In this presentation, I’ll explore how Marvel
explains the multiverse and time travel, and how those ideas reflect cutting-edge theories in
physics — from quantum mechanics to the Many-Worlds Interpretation.

In the Marvel universe, the multiverse refers to the existence of multiple, parallel universes.
Each universe a separate branch of reality, each with its own version of characters and
events. This isn't just fiction — it mirrors the Many-Worlds Interpretation in quantum
physics, which suggests that every decision creates another reality where every possible
outcome happens.

In ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’, America Chavez can physically travel
between alternate universes. While that’s science fiction, quantum tunneling — where
particles pass through barriers — is a real quantum effect. Some physicists believe that
quantum entanglement could one day allow data transmission across universes.

In Avengers: Endgame, Bruce Banner explains time travel by saying, “If you travel to the
past, that past becomes your future… and your former present becomes the past, which
can’t now be changed by your new future.” Unlike most time travel conceptions, Instead of
erasing the future, Marvel creates alternate branches.

Marvel actually avoids time travel paradoxes by using branched timelines — changing
the past creates a new universe instead of rewriting one. In Endgame, the Ancient One
shows this: removing the infinity Stones creates dangerous branches, but returning them
keeps the timeline stable. This idea is similar to quantum physics, where observing
something locks it into one outcome.

So how might multiverses actually exist in our universe? According to the inflationary
multiverse theory, right after the Big Bang, space expanded unevenly. Some regions may
have formed ‘bubble universes’, each with different physical laws. It’s still theoretical — but
it shows how Marvel’s ideas aren’t far from cutting-edge cosmology.

In Marvel’s multiverse, the TVA from Loki controls branched timelines and prunes
dangerous timelines with dangerous people. But in real science, if such a multiverse exists,
no such authority would keep them in check. They’d evolve naturally, chaotically, and
infinitely. That’s both terrifying and fascinating — endless realities, endless versions of you,
a little bit how Loki and a lot of his variants from other multiverses defied the TVA’s rules..

Marvel’s take on time travel and the multiverse might be
fiction, but it's rooted in real science. The lines between
imagination and possibility are thinner than we think. Thank
