(1) Find the number of square units in the area of the region. The dots are
equally spaced vertically and horizontally.

(2) In a photographer's studio, a 4-inch wide frame is placed around a 1-foot


square photo of a champion dog. The photo is then enlarged by multiplying each dimension
by y . Given that the dimensions of the enlargement are now the same as the outside of the
original frame, nd the value of y . Express your answer as a common fraction.
