Foundation Inspection Report for Tank TK201D

The Foundation Inspection Report for the Crude Oil Tank TK201D, conducted on October 19, 2024, indicates that the visual inspection revealed good integrity of the concrete ring, with only superficial cracks observed. Recommendations include complete exposure and inspection of the concrete ring during the next outage, along with necessary repairs to the damaged sealing between the annular plate and the concrete ring. No signs of chemical or salt attack were found, and the report suggests using appropriate epoxy for any concrete damage that does not expose rebar.

I. Introduction:
Nafosa requested IIC to conduct an assessment on the TK-201D foundation integrity and
provide required recommendation .
A damaged portion of 6 m extend was excavated and exposed to visual inspection , our Civil
engineer performed a site visit on 19th October 2024 to perform the Foundation integrity
assessment , the results are summarized in below .

II. Scope of work:

• 100 % Visual on the Concrete Ring and Foundation

• Focus on the Exposed portion of 6 m length (West side) : Concrete Ring was Exposed
at 1.5m depth in order to verify the integrity of the Concrete ring specially the extend
of some crack that was observed on the surface.

III. Findings :

Fig 001 : Exposure of 6m of Concrete ring , 1.6 m depth to

evaluate the extend of superficial cracks observed by visual .

• Visit done to the tank on 19th October 2024 .

• The visual Inspection of the Ring show good integrity level in general, The Crack was not
extending inside the ring, the metallic Rebar was well protected .(Fig 002+Fig 003)

• The concrete ring shall be exposed 100 % during next outage and any crack to be 100 %
excavated and repaired adequately . (using SIKADURE or SIKAFLEX or equivalent

• The sealing between the Annular plate and the concrete Ring is significantly damaged ,
water can pass in between and cause corrosion . This seal need to be replaced or
repaired 100 % around the Tank (Fig 04)

• No Sign of any chemical or salt attack to the concrete or water introduction inside that
can affect the Reinforcing Steel .

• According the information from site: seems that the ring was entirely repaired during
the last Bottom replacement on 2003 by Vaoos Company

on the rebars

IV. Conclusion :
o Visit done to the tank on 19th October 2024 by our Civil Engineer .
o The exposed area of the Ring a (6m length excavated at 1.6 m depth as
recommended by API 653 Inspector ) show that the cracks noted during the
Visual inspection by the API 653 Inspectors was just superficial and no cause of
concern on that particular area .
o No sign of chemical attack or salt contamination or any other concrete damage on
the exposed area .
o We recommend the Entire exposure of the Ring (129m ) around the tank 100 % ,
1.5m excavation depth , and conduct 100 % visual inspection .
o In case of presence of concrete damage that don’t expose the rebar: Repair using
adequate and code compliant procedure (with Any appropriate Epoxy such is
SIKA Dure or SIKA FLEX …)
o If Rebar is exposed than an appropriate Corrosion resistance coating system shall
be used, and shall be salt/moisture resistant followed by concrete repair .
