Overview
This document provides an overview of the Hospital Information System (HIS)
architecture, detailing the components, network topology, Licensing and
interactions between various subsystems. The system is designed to ensure high
availability, data redundancy, and efficient performance for both local and remote
users.

Oracle Real Application Cluster & HIS Infrastructure - Hardware Requirements
1
Designed by Canbase P Ltd.
Components
HIS Users
● HIS Users (Local Users): Access the system via HTTP through a Load
Balancer.
● Mobile Application Users: Connect via the Internet using HTTPS and pass
through a Firewall before reaching the Mobile App Server (VM).
Application Layer
se
● HIS Application Servers (Server 1 & Server 2) manage application logic and
user interactions.
● The Load Balancer distributes requests to ensure optimal performance and
ba availability.
Database Layer
● Oracle RAC Servers (Server 1 & Server 2) form a high-availability clustered
an
database setup.
● SAN Storage provides shared storage for database operations, ensuring
data integrity and redundancy.
● Stacked Network Switches facilitate connectivity between database servers
and storage.
C
Network Components
● Stacked Switches (Network Switch 1 & Network Switch 2) provide
high-availability networking for the Oracle RAC setup.
● Firewall ensures security for external mobile application users.
● Public/LAN Network Connections (Green) handle general communications.

Designed by Canbase P Ltd.
● Private Network Connections (Red) manage internal and secure
transactions between Oracle RAC nodes.
● Fiber Connections (Blue) link Oracle RAC nodes to SAN Storage.
Standby & Replication
● Oracle Database Standby Server (VM) is used for disaster recovery and is
synchronized with Oracle RAC via Database Replication.
● This setup ensures continuous data availability in case of failure.
Network Topology
se
The HIS architecture is built with redundancy and performance optimization:
● HIS Users access the system via HTTP through the Load Balancer, which
ba directs traffic to the HIS Application Servers.
● Mobile Application Users securely connect via HTTPS over the Internet,
passing through a Firewall before reaching the Mobile App Server (VM).
● These application servers communicate with the Oracle RAC Database via
an
the Stacked Switches.
● The SAN Storage ensures database consistency with fiber-optic
connections.
● A Standby Oracle Database Server (VM) ensures failover and replication
support.
C
Security Measures
● Firewall Protection: Ensures secure access for mobile users.
● Private Network Segmentation: Separates critical database traffic from
general network traffic.
● Encryption: HTTPS ensures secure communication for external users.

● Database Replication: Provides real-time* failover capabilities
*Requires additional software for real-time failover capabilities. Default deployment ensures atleast 30 mins recovery point objective (RPO)
High Availability and Redundancy
● Stacked Switches: Ensure uninterrupted network connectivity.
● Oracle RAC Clustering: Prevents database downtime.
● Load Balancer: Distributes application traffic for performance optimization.
● Database Standby Server: Provides disaster recovery support.

Conclusion
The HIS architecture is designed for scalability, redundancy, and security, ensuring
seamless hospital operations. With Oracle RAC for database clustering, SAN
storage for data integrity, and network redundancy, the system is capable of
handling high traffic loads while ensuring data availability and security.
