STUDENT PROJECTS
Identification of Projects and allocation Methodology to Faculty Members
The projects to the student are given/selected in line with Department mission, vision and
program outcomes.
Students are provided with brief idea of various fields for selecting the project ideas.
Students are encouraged to take up projects that are unique, innovative that addresses
social and environmental issues which emphasizes on research.
The list of previous year project is displayed in notice board which ensures no repetition
of project work and also encourages students to enhance the previous works.
An overall project coordinator is nominated in the department along with a separate
project coordinator per section to oversee the progress. He is responsible for planning,
scheduling and execution of all the activities related to student project work.
The faculties encourage the student to carry out in house projects and support will be
provided with necessary software and tools.
Students are allowed to form group which consist of minimum one member to maximum
four members.
The decisions of groups are finalized in department meeting.
A circular is issued to faculty members of department to provide the list of projects to be
given to the students at the end of sixth semester.
The same is being notified to the students by way of addressing in the classroom by
project coordinator, besides displaying the batch details in the department notice board.
Students are encouraged to come up with the idea of their own for doing the project.
Student have the option to choose the areas in which they are interested viz. thermal
engineering, manufacturing engineering, material science and engineering, design
engineering to carry out projects.
Based on this the students present their project idea before the project coordinators. After
careful examination of the ideas presented by student / team, guides are allocated based
on faculty specialization by the project coordinators.
Types and relevance of the Projects and their contribution towards
attainment of POs and PSOs
The Department projects are broadly classified as:
Industry project: under this, the project is performed in an industry or an external
organization with identified internal and external guides.
In-house project: under this, project is performed under the supervision of a faculty from
the Department within college premises.
The entire span of project work is divided into two phases. Phase I is done during the 7th
semester where project identification, guide selection, literature survey and collection of
data to complete the Phase II project is done. In the phase II which is carried out during
the 8th semester, Fabrication / prototype making / analysis of data, demonstration of the
project are done.
Process for Monitoring and Evaluation
In the Phase I
Task Particulars Marks
Zeroth Student present their project titles as power point presentation, -
Review which are evaluated by a team of experts to refine/finalize the title
of the project for each batch
First Review Students will present the overview and Gantt chart to the team of 20
experts for final confirmation of the project
Second Students will present the literature review collected from various 20
Review journals and present it as power point slides.
Third Review Students present their required specification and other drawing for 20
fabricating their project as power point slides along with project
report for Phase I
End semester Final Report – Phase I 40
The mark allocated is 60 marks for continuous assessment through zeroth, first, second and third
reviews and 40 marks for third review report.
In the phase II
Task Particulars Marks
Students present complete design document of project with analysis
First Review 20
as power point slides
The students present progress of their fabrication / prototype of
Second Review their project as power point slides and explain their working. 20
The students do the analysis of data collected and present their
Third Review concluding remark as power point slides 20
The students present their project and demonstrate the working of
End semester the model that they have fabricated to external examiner 40
Students shall submit printout of the presentation to their guide for giving suggestion towards
improvement before presenting it to the team of experts.
During the Zeroth Review faculty in the review committee asks the student to change the
title of the project if not satisfied.
Project presentation is conducted every month to monitor the progress and development
of the project at various stages. The reviews help us to assess and improve the quality of
the projects.
The suggestion of the team of experts on the project helps students to improve the
outcome of the project.
An expert member from an allied department will be present to monitor the proceedings
of the project review conducted by the department.
A feedback on his observation regarding the project quality and presentation skills is
given to the HoD.
The project guides encourage student to publish their project work in International
Journals and present papers in conference.
The department conducts National Level Project Exhibition contest where in the
innovative projects and ideas of students are showcased.
The best project identified from the project exhibition will be sent to compete in national
level contests.
The Department encourages and guides the students who have done innovative projects
to file patent. Department organizes national level and international level conferences in
each academic year to enrich the knowledge of the studies and to expose then to the
latest areas of research. It also provides a platform for students and faculty to share their
ideas and knowledge.
The management also recognizes 1 best project from each Department and is awarded
during the college day function.
Impact Analysis
Improved teamwork and team building.
Implementation and deployment of the project for social benefits.
Presentation skills have improved.
Process to assess Individual and Team Performance
Based on the quality, innovation and presentation skill of the individual and team marks
are awarded in each review.
The breakup of marks in each review for 20 is as follows.
1. Marks awarded by Review committee (excluding Guide) – 10
2. Marks awarded by Guide – 10

Quality of completed projects/Working prototypes
The students will demonstrate the working prototype models during the project review
and end semester examination.
Outcomes of the projects are encouraged to publish as a paper in conference / journals
and the best prototypes are selected and sent for project exhibitions.
