Problem Solving
Using Ohm’s Law
SAMPLE A circuit contains a battery and a 3.0-ohm resistor. The battery has a voltage
PROBLEM of 1.5 volts. Find the current in the circuit.
ANALYZE Known: V = 1.5 volts, R = 3.0 ohms
V = IR
Unknown: current I
PLAN Solve Ohm’s law for I. Substitute the values for V and R, and calculate I.
SOLVE V = IR
I=V/R
I = (1.5 volts) / (3.0 ohms)
I = 0.50 amps
