ARTICLE WRITING
An article is a written work published in a print/electronic medium. It may be for the purpose of
propagating news, researching results, academic analysis, or debate. Generally, it is a piece of
writing that is published in a newspaper or Magazine.
The format of an article consists of the following parts –
1. Heading (The heading should be catchy and in not more than 5-6 words)
2. By line (It refers to the name of the person writing the article)
3. Body (3-4 paragraphs)
Points to note:
1. Plan Before Writing:
Follow a logical sequence of ideas.
Jot down points at the back of the answer sheet.
2. Structured Approach:
Introduce, analyse, suggest, and conclude.
3. Manage Points:
Too Many Points:
Choose the best ones.
Write one or two lines on each.
Too Few Points:
Explain each in two to three lines.
4. Order of Points:
Start with your strongest point.
Place weaker points in the middle.
End with another strong point.
Follow the Strong-Weak-Strong order.
5. Word Limit and Time Management:
Stick to the prescribed word limit.
Do not exceed the time frame.
6. Personal Opinion:
Include one or two lines of personal opinion.
7. Stay on Topic:
Avoid deviating from the main point.
Prevent ideas from leading you astray.
8. Avoid Repetition:
Ensure each idea is unique.
9. Check for Accuracy:
Double-check grammar and spellings.
10. Use Quotes:
Keep general quotes handy for better presentation.
11. Read Editorials:
Observe patterns in newspaper editorials.

Deforestation, the widespread removal of forest cover, is a critical environmental issue. This
article highlights its causes, impacts, and potential solutions.
Forests are vital ecosystems supporting diverse flora and fauna, regulating climate, and
providing resources. Deforestation, driven by agriculture, logging, infrastructure, and urbanization,
leads to ecological imbalance and environmental degradation. Loss of biodiversity, disrupted carbon
cycles, soil erosion, and impacts on indigenous communities are consequences.
Solutions include reforestation, sustainable agriculture, enforcement of logging regulations,
and awareness campaigns. Urgent action is needed, and as students, advocating for sustainability is
crucial. Understanding the issue and supporting conservation efforts can ensure a greener future.
In Mahatma Gandhi's words, "The earth provides enough to satisfy every man's needs, but not
every man's greed." It's time for collective action to safeguard our forests and our future.
