Federal regulations mandate that schools participating in the Federal Student Aid Programs establish a Satisfactory
Academic Progress (SAP) policy that monitors student progress at least once each semester for grant/loan eligibility.
Please review SAP policy and Appeal Form deadline.
Before Continuing:
Please review the "Financial Aid Dismissal" notice in your eServices Message Center to identify the specific reason(s)
you did not meet Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) standards. Based on this information, select the applicable
reason(s) to appeal under sections A, B, and/or C. Be sure to respond thoroughly to all questions in each section you
select and provide supporting documents.
Reason for Appeal (Check all that apply):
A: Qualitative - Minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) and/or Quantitative – Pace
I currently have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) below 2.0.
I currently have a cumulative completion rate that is less than 66.67%.
On a separate typed document:
Address every semester where you did not meet SAP at your home college.
If appealing due to a GPA below 2.0, address all semesters with a GPA below 2.0 with grades of D and
F.
If appealing for a completion rate of less than 66.67%, address all semesters with non-complete courses,
grades of F, No Pass (NP), No Credit (NC), Incomplete (I), W, and EW.
Detail the extenuating circumstances that affected your academic progress for each semester.
Provide a detailed explanation of how your situation has changed and the specific steps you have taken
to ensure improvement in your academic success moving forward.
You should attach any supporting documentation that supports your statement for all unsuccessful
semesters addressed. If you are unable to provide documentation, submit an additional statement to
thoroughly address your situation and explain why no supporting documents can be provided.
B: Maximum Time Frame
I have attempted more than 150% of the units required for my declared degree/certificate program.
On a separate typed document:
Explain why you have not completed your goal within 150% of your degree/certificate program.
If applicable, state why you are not currently using the degree you completed.
Address your educational goal and major at your home college.
Provide the semester(s) and the number of units left to complete your program of study.
C: Earned Bachelor’s Degree
I have earned a US or Foreign Bachelor’s degree or higher.
Note: Students who have obtained a Bachelor’s may only be eligible for Federal Work Study or Federal Direct
Loans if their appeal is approved.
On a separate typed document:
Specify what your current career field entails.
State what major you obtained your Bachelor’s degree in and why you are not currently using this degree.
State the major you are pursuing at your Los Rios home college & how obtaining a degree/certificate at
this college will assist you in your current career.
Provide the semester(s) and the number of units left to complete your program of study.
CHECKLIST FOR SUBMITTING YOUR SAP APPEAL
□ Complete sections A, B, and/or C with statements attached
□ Attach any supporting documents
□ Meet with an Academic Counselor and submit a Student Educational Plan (SEP), if applicable
□ Sign and submit this SAP Appeal form
Probation
If your appeal is approved, you will be placed on probation. You must meet all areas of SAP each term to
remain on probation and remain eligible for aid.
The appeal process may take up to 6 weeks depending on the volume of appeals to be reviewed. Appeals are
reviewed in the order of the date received and cannot be expedited under any circumstances. While your appeal is in the
review process, you should be prepared to pay for your educational expenses from your resources. It is your responsibility
to ensure that your fees are paid by the Fee Payment Deadline. You will receive a written response from your eServices
Message Center when a decision is made. An appeal committee reviews appeals, and all decisions are final.
