What is Descriptive Text?
The Definition and Purpose of Descriptive Text
Descriptive text is a text which says what a person or a thing is like. Its purpose is to describe
and reveal a particular person, place, or thing.
1. The Generic Structure of Descriptive Text
Descriptive text has structure as below:
● Identification : Identifies phenomenon (person, place or thing) that will be described.
● Description : Describes parts, qualities, characteristics.
2. The Language Feature of Descriptive Text
● Specific participant : has a certain object, is not common and unique (only one). For
example: Borobudur temple.
● The use of the adjective to clarify the noun, for example a beautiful beach, a handsome
man.
● The use of simple present tense
● Action verb : verb that show an activity (for example run, sleep, walk, etc)

The Maimun Palace
The Maimun Palace has been crowned as the most beatiful building in Medan, North
Sumatra. Located in the area of Jl. Brigjen. Katamso, this magnificient palace was completed
around 1888 and was a legacy from the Sultan of Deli, Ma’mun Al Rashid Perkasa Alamsyah. Yellow
color on this building is typical Malay.
Unique architecture is the main attraction of the Maimun Palace. European influence is
evident in the hall or living room, windows, doors, and stairs in front of an inscription that reads
Latin letters, in Dutch. Meanwhie, a hallmark of Islam appeared on the roof of the curved Persian
style, which is often found in buildings in the Middle East region.
The interior of the Maimun Palace is also interesting to see. Behind the walls are solid,
there are dozen of rooms spread over two floors. Slpendor was shown on the throne, European
crystal lamps, chairs, tables, and cabinets. Family photograph, old weapons, including prison space,
also in this palace. Although it is still storing objects of historical value, the Maimun Palace still
allows tourists to visit and enjoy the splendor as well as explore the past glory of the Deli
Sultanete.
