Character: Ariel: “The Little Mermaid” (1989)

Monologue:

Have you ever looked at the world and felt like you don’t belong? Like there’s
something missing, something you can’t quite put your nger on? That’s how
I feel every day. I live under the sea, but my heart is up there, in the world
above.

I’ve always been fascinated by humans, their culture, their music, their…
legs. And I’ve always dreamed of seeing them up close, of being a part of
their world. But my father, King Triton, he’s always been so overprotective, so
strict. He thinks the humans are dangerous, that they’ll only bring us harm.

But I know there’s more to it than that. I know that there’s love, there’s
friendship, there’s… adventure. And I want to experience it all. I want to see
the sun, feel the sand, dance with a prince. I want to be a part of their world.

And I will. No matter what it takes, no matter who stands in my way, I will nd
a way to be where I belong. Because that’s what being true to yourself
means. It means following your heart, even when it leads you to the unknown.
