Introduction to Musical Notes
In Western musical system we use the same alphabets as in English, but after G
we won’t follow the remaining but get back to A again. Solfege is a system of
notation in which every note of a scale is given a specific syllable, that is always
said for that note.
In western music, the said syllables are do, re, mi, fa, so, la, ti, do. For example,
in the scale shown above, we know it consists of
C, D, E, F, G, A, B, and C.
So, C would correspond to do, D would be re, E would be mi and so on.
Swaras are a similar concept as solfege, only difference being, swaras are
notations in Indian music. These are sa, re, ga, ma, pa, dha, ni, sa.
On a keyboard, the white keys are named C, D, E, F, G, A, B and repeat in this
order across the entire keyboard
C is found to the left of any group of two black keys
The white keys follow the same note names you use for vocal music: Do, Re,
Mi, Fa, Sol, La, Ti (C, D, E, F, G, A, B in letter names)
Once you reach B, the pattern starts over with C again.
This layout helps you visually connect the notes you sing with their positions on
the keyboard.

Signs of Solfege
Solfege signs are hand movements that help singers understand musical
notes and pitch. Each note (Do, Re, Mi, Fa, Sol, La, Ti) has its own hand sign,
showing how the notes go up and down in a scale. These signs are like a map
for your voice, helping you see where each note is. Practising solfege signs
helps singers sing melodies correctly and improve their sense of pitch.
Do (closed fist) – like a strong base or home note.
Re (slanted hand) – reaching upward, like climbing a step.
Mi (flat hand) – level and stable, like standing on a step.
Fa (thumb pointing down) – pushing forward, ready to move.
Sol (palm up) – reaching higher, like a stretch.
La (curved palm up) – even higher, light and floating.
Ti (pointing up) – ready to jump back to "Do," like a rocket!
