Building Automation System Overview

A building automation system (BAS) is a computerized, intelligent network that monitors and controls a building's mechanical and lighting systems. It is made up of field devices, controllers, and a central computer system. BAS components work together to control, monitor, and record parameters like air conditioning, lighting, and other building systems. This allows building owners and managers to continuously improve energy performance. Implementing a BAS can save energy and costs by running plant equipment at optimal levels based on demand. It also provides comfort controls and analyzes alarm data to prioritize issues by severity. A BAS reduces manpower and human errors compared to manual operation of building systems. It is a solution to save energy and cut costs for both new and existing buildings
