I. CURRICULUM CONTENT, STANDARDS, AND LESSON COMPETENCIES
A. Content Standards The learners should have knowledge and understanding of the
set of integers, and comparing and ordering integers, the four
operations with integers, simplification of numerical expressions
involving integers, and absolute value of an integer.
B. Performance Standards By the end of the quarter, learners are able to compare and
order integers, including through the use of the number line,
perform the four operations with integers, simplify numerical
expressions involving integers, and identify the absolute value
of an integer. (NA)
C. Learning Competencies The learners describe the set of integers, use positive and
negative numbers to describe directions or opposites in real-life
situations, locate integers on the number line, compare and
order integers, add and subtract integers using concrete models
(e.g., counters, integer chips), pictorial models (e.g., bar models,
number lines), and with integers written as numerals, multiply
and divide integers, simplify numerical expressions involving
integers using number properties and the order of operations
(GEMDAS), and identify the absolute value of an integer, and its
meaning on the number line.
D. Learning Objectives At the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
1. Add integers using number line .
2. Apply the rules for adding integers.
3. Solve integer addition problems using number line.
E. Social-Learning Factor: Social Skills
Competencies
Sub-factor: Sharing, Communication, Teamwork
By the end of the lesson, students will demonstrate cooperation
and respect while working with peers in exploring integers using
concrete and pictorial models.

number lines.
Integers in Our Everyday Life
Scenarios:
1. Miguel, a Grade 7 student in the Philippines, receives a weekly allowance
from his parents and earns extra money by doing chores. However, he also has
expenses throughout the week. Let's explore how Miguel manages his
allowance using addition and subtraction of integers.
Week’s Transactions:
Starting Allowance: Miguel starts the week with P200.
Earnings and Expenses:
• Monday: Earns P50 for washing the car.
• Tuesday: Spends P20 on a snack from the sari-sari store.
• Wednesday: Earns P30 for helping with groceries.
• Thursday: Spends P40 on jeepney fares.
• Friday: Buys a birthday gift for a friend, spending P70.
Problem: Calculate Miguel’s remaining allowance at the end of the
week.
2. Unlocking Content Vocabulary
NUMBER LINE – a straight line, it extends infinitely in both
directions. Zero is the central point or origin. Numbers increases to
the right (positive) and decreases to the left (negative).
C. Developing and Deepening 1. Explicitation
Understanding
ACTIVITY
Do It By PAIR:
Let the student find a partner sit together and make sure you both
have a pencil, follow the instruction given by the teacher.
a. Draw a number line: Start by drawing a horizontal line on a piece
of paper. Mark equally spaced points along the line, starting from
zero in the middle, labeling it them with integers in sequence both
in the positive direction (to the right) and in the negative direction
(to the left),
b .Ask the students from the origin, move according to the first
integer:
If the first integer is positive what is the movement direction?
move to the right from the origin by the number of spaces
that corresponds to the magnitude of the first integer.
If the first integer is negative , what is the movement direction?
move to the left from the origin by the number of spaces
that corresponds to the magnitude of the first integer.
Ask the learner if they understand.
[Link] Example
Example #1:
Show the sum 3+ 5 on the number line
Solution:
The first number is 3, which tells us to “start at the origin and move 3 units
in
the positive direction.”
1. Move according to the second integer: From the new position, adjust
your
location based on the second integer: If the second integer is positive,
move further to the right by the number of spaces equal to the second
integer. If the second integer is negative, move to the left by the number
of spaces equal to the absolute value of the second integer.
2. Identify the final position and determine the sum. The point where you
end up on the number line after making both moves represents the sum of
the two integers.
Look at the number at your final position. This number is the result of the
addition of the two integers.
Example #2
Find –6 + 4.
Can you explain what will happen if you add like signs using our number
line? How about if it is unlike signs?
1. L E S S O N A C T I V I T Y

2. 8+4 = 7. 6+(−5)=
3. -2+(−7)= 8. −9+(−2)=
4. -9+(10)= 9. 5 + (-7) =
5. -5+ 2 = 10. −1 + (7)

Let us help Joy to find her way on her home. She is experiencing an
excitement because she won quiz bee . Let us solve the following
equations and find the correct route to her friends house
Values Focus:
Responsibility, discipline, patience, positive attitude in work.
In this lesson, the area of integration(MAPEH)
Coaches and players use integer addition to calculate total progress on the field.
If a team gains 8 yards on the first play and loses 12 yards on the second, what is
their net progress?
8 + (-12) = -4 yards (a loss of 4 yards from the start)
D. Making Generalizations 1. Learner’s Takeaway
Fill in the blanks to complete the rules in adding an integers using
the number line;
To add integers, using the number line locate the ____integer on the
line,
and then move to the _______ for positive numbers and to the ______
for negative numbers.
2. Reflection on Learning
Answer the following questions:
a) In what ways did the number line make adding
positive and negative integers clearer?
b) How did the traditional rules of signs help you
confirm your answers when adding integers?
E. Evaluating Learning Formative Assessment
Add the following using number line.
1. 6 + 4
2. −4 + (−6)
3. 5 + (−7)
4 8 + (−8)
5. −3 + 13
6. 0 + (−11)
7. - 4 + (−6)
8. -2 + 5
