BACKGROUND OF THE RESEARCH

Parental support is a major factor in determining students academic performance that that in
turn affects their motivation, study, habits, and emotional well-being (Garcia & Santiago, 2019).
One of the ways the parents involvement in the school is followed out through the control of the
school and activities, helping with assignments, and giving emotional and financial support. In the
research of Lopez, Dela Cruz, & Santos (2020) this parental involvement has been found to be the
cause of the academic outcomes of the children to be better. The results of a survey show that
those learners whose parents are engaged in their education actively tend to have higher scores,
better classroom behavior, and more confidence in school (Reyes & Bautista, 2021). The
importance of the parental support has been confirmed by various authors to be valid in
different settings from urban to rural schools, and it is still true that parental support is an
essential factor even if the socioeconomic status is different (Fernandez, 2018, Mercado & Abad,
2020). If we could explore the way the parental support affects students performance, then both
educators and parents would be able to come up with strategies to help students learn more,
give the right guidance, and also create an atmosphere where students are able to excel
academically.

In their research, Lopez, Dela Cruz, and Santos (2020) reported that parental involvement, to
explain here, checking if homework is done, going to school events, and giving emotional support
is positively related to students grades and motivation. So far, there are not many studies
concentrating involved on rural school such as Hilabaan National High School, where the
situation of parental support might change due to the local economic conditions and availability
of resources. Therefore, so far, no research has explored the specific types of parental support
(for example, emotional, financial, academic guidance) that can be the influential to students
performance in this particular area. Reyes and Bautista (2021) state that parental support may
lead to increased academic confidence, but the degree of it's influence is small, if parents are
busy or do not have any educational background, they will not be able to help their children
effectively.

Now, it is the role of the present study to determine how parental support emotional, financial,
and academic affects the academic performance of students in Hilabaan National High School.
This study will specifically explore which type of parental involvement contributes most to
students success. The research will apply surveys and academic records to analyze the
connection between parental support and students performance.

SCOPE AND DELIMITATION

This study employs a quantitative, experimental research design. Experimental research design is
a type of quantitative research method used to determine cause-and-effect relationships
between variables. In this design, the researcher manipulates one variable (called the
independent variable) and then observes the effect of that manipulation on another variable
(called the dependent variable), while keeping other factors constant.

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

The results of this research will benefit the following:

STUDENTS. Studies show that parental involvement, such as helping with homework, attending
school events, and communicating with teachers, is linked to higher grades, better test scores,
and improved overall academic performance.

PARENTS. The research can highlight the crucial role of parental involvement in a child's
education, encouraging parents to actively participate in their children's schooling.

TEACHERS. Teachers can learn about different types of parental involvement that are most
effective in supporting student learning.

FUTURE RESEARCHERS. This study serves as a foundation for the exploration of parental support
and academic performance, educational challenges, and strategies for success in high school.
DEFINITION OF TERMS

ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE. Academic performance refers to the learner's understanding,

ENGAGED. Engaged refers to pledge or commit oneself to a course of action, relationship, or

PARENRAL SUPPORT. Parental support refers to the emotional, financial and social assistance
that the parents provided to help their children to succeed specially in the school and personal
development of the students.
