This module introduces learners to Google Sheets, a free, cloud-based spreadsheet tool used for
organizing, analyzing, and visualizing data. It also allows users to create, edit, and collaborate on
data in real time. Learners will explore its interface, core functions, and collaborative features,
with guided exercises to build confidence and practical skills managed data efficiently without
installing software.

Google Sheets Beginner Module


Lesson 1: Introduction to Google Sheets
🧠 What You’ll Learn:

 What Google Sheets is


 How it compares to Microsoft Excel
 How to access and create a spreadsheet

✅ Steps:

1. Open a browser and go to [Link]


2. Sign in with your Google account
3. Click Blank to create a new spreadsheet
4. Click on “Untitled Spreadsheet” at the top and rename it to “My First Sheet”
5. In cell A1, type your name
6. In cell B1, type today’s date

📝 Activity:

Create a simple table with your name, date, and favorite color in three columns.

Lesson 2: Navigating the Interface


🧠 What You’ll Learn:

 Rows, columns, and cells


 How to move around the sheet
 How to rename and manage sheet tabs

✅ Steps:

1. Observe the grid: columns (A, B, C…) and rows (1, 2, 3…)
2. Click on cell A2 and type “1”
3. Press Enter to move down, type “2”, and continue to “5”
4. In column B (B2 to B6), type five fruit names
5. At the bottom, click the tab labeled “Sheet1” and rename it to “Fruits”
📝 Activity:

Create a list of five items with corresponding numbers and rename the sheet tab.

Lesson 3: Formatting Cells

 How to change font styles, colors, and alignment


 How to format numbers as currency, date, or percent

1. Select cells B2 to B6 (fruit names)


2. Click the Bold (B) icon in the toolbar
3. Change the font color of “Mango” to green using the Text color tool
4. Select cells A2 to A6 and click Format > Number > Currency

Format a list of items with bold text, colored fonts, and currency values.

Lesson 4: Basic Formulas

1. In cell C2, type =A2+A3 and press Enter


2. In cell C3, type =SUM(A2:A6) to add all numbers

Lesson 5: Sorting and Filtering

 How to comment and view version history

✅ Steps:

3. Click the Share button in the top-right corner


4. Enter an email address and choose permission (Viewer, Commenter, Editor)
5. Click Comment icon and leave a note on cell B2
6. Go to File > Version history > See version history
7. Click on a previous version to view or restore

📝 Activity:

Share your sheet with a classmate, leave a comment, and explore version history.
