Programming language
A software is a set of instructions that allow a computer system to perform a specific task.
Types of software
1. System software; is a program designed by a programmer that allows a computer to
perform task e.g utility software, OS.
2. Application software; are programs/ package designed to designed to be used for carrying
out our daily task.
Computer program; is a set of instructions designed for the computer to carry out a specific task.
A programming language is a set of rules/ vocabularies/ that instruct a computer or system to
perform a task.
Types of program
1. High level language; it is written in form of English by the programmer for better
understanding.
2. Low level language; it is a machine dependent language written I symbolic codes.
3. Machine language; it is the only language that the computer understands and does not
need translation, it is written in 0s and 1s.
Language translator are program that converts high level language into a machine language.
Types of language translators
1. Interpreter: executes, program lines by lines.
2. Complier: executes programs at a go.
3. Assembler.
Assignment.
1. Mention 5 features of computer programming language
2. List 10 computer programming language
Answer . A
1. Efficiency
2. Error handling
3. Modularity
4. Portability
5. Simplicity.

• COBOL
• FOTRAN
• JAVA
• C++
• PYTHON
• PHP
• CHCC- SHARP
• C
• JAVA SCRIPT
• RUBY

Learning objectives:
• Demonstrate different methods/ ways of powering on the system.
• Highlight the steps to shut down the system.
• List the types of booting, system [ cold and warm booting ].

BOOTING PROCESS
Booting is the process of powering on a computer, mouse is useless during booting process, POST
– power on self test.
To shut down the computer you must:
- Click on the windows sign ( start menu ).
- A series of suggestions will pop up, then you will click on shut down
Types of booting
- Cold booting: to start a computer afresh i.e when powering on the system.
- Warm booting: to restart or shut down the system.
Assignment
1. Differentiate between cold and warm booting.
2. State the process of booting.
Answer
1. Cold booting: means starting a computer or to start a computer afresh, this process refer
to pressing on the power button.
Warm booting: to restart or shut down the computer system.
2. Press the power button, then your device will start and will go through a process called
POST [ power on self test ]. This is the process during booting that the computer system
checks if all the parts are functioning properly.

PYTHON
Python was created by Guido Van Rossum, born in 1956 in Haarlem, the Netherlands. This doesn’t
mean he developed and evaluated all the python components himself.
Python was first released in 1991.

Features of python
- Easy to learn.
- Free and open source.
- Easy to read.
- Its an high level interpreted language.
- It is portable.
- Large standard library.

Uses of python
Python is a general purpose programming language with its impact spanning across different
sectors such as tech, education, finance, medicine, robotics e.t.c listed below are some of the
popular use of python.
- Software development.
- Web scraping applications.
- Business applications.
- Desktop graphic user interface (GUI) development.
- Web development.
- Game development.
- Data analysis and visualization.
- Machine learning and AI.
- Task automation.
Real life applications of python
Let’s have a look at some of the real world applications of python
• Google search: relies on python and tensor to create machine learning models to increase
the search and relevance.
• Gmail: uses python to create predictive AI featuring models.
• Spotify: uses over 6000 python processes to work together in their back-end music
recommendation engine.
• Instagram: currently features one of the world’s largest deployments of python’s web
framework.
• Uber: uses python as one of the two programming language in its services. Other
examples are QUORA, NETFLIX, DROPBOX, REDDIT.

MOUSE AND KEYBOARD OPERATIONS.

(how to use the mouse and keyboard)
Learning objectives:
I. Identify the various sections of the keyboard.
II. Demonstrate the use of the keyboard.
III. Using of various mouse techniques.

Input devices
1. Mouse
2. Keyboard; used to type/ insert keys into the system.
3. Joystick; input device for playing computer games.
4. Scanner; input device which works with the software.
5. USB flash.
6. Microphone.
7. Light pen.

Mouse techniques
1. Right click- the right way to hold your mouse is to hold it between your index fingers, when
you right click, a pop down memo will show up, if your pointer is at he down of the
monitor, the pop up menu will show up, to display options (pop down & pop up menu)

out the action of the bolded option on the pop down/up menu.
3. Left click- select
4. Click once then click again: to rename an icon or a folder.
5. Scroll: move pages up and down.
Assignment
