Q. 31 According to Theorem 10.2: The lengths of tangents drawn from

an external point to a circle are equal.
Therefore,
BP = BQ (Tangents from point B)…… (1)
CR = CQ (Tangents from point C)…… (2)
DR = DS (Tangents from point D)…… (3)
AP = AS (Tangents from point A)……. (4) 1
Adding (1) + (2) + (3) + (4)
BP + CR + DR + AP = BQ + CQ + DS + AS
On re-grouping,
BP + AP + CR + DR = BQ + CQ + DS + AS
AB + CD = BC + AD 1
Substitute CD = AB and AD = BC since ABCD is a parallelogram,
then
AB + AB = BC + BC
2AB = 2BC
AB = BC
∴ AB = BC = CD = DA 1
This implies that all the four sides are equal.
Therefore, the parallelogram circumscribing a circle is a rhombus.

( Section D consists of 4 questions of 5 marks each. )
Q. 32 (i) Area of the sector = πr2θ/360 1
(ii) Area of the segment = Area of the sector - Area of the
corresponding triangle.
Here, radius, r = 12 cm, ∠AOB = θ = 120°

(i) Area of sector OAYB = πr2 θ/360°

(ii) Area of ΔAOB = 1/2 × base × height
For finding the area of ΔAOB, draw OM ⊥ AB then find base AB
and height OM using the figure as shown above. 1
Area of sector OAYB = πr2120°/360°
= 1/3 × 3.14 × (12 cm)2
= 150.72 cm2
Therefore, ∠AOM = ∠BOM = 1/2 ∠AOB = 60°
In ΔAOM,
AM/OA = sin 60° and OM/OA = cos 60°

AM/12 cm = √3/2 and OM/12 cm = 1/2

AM = √3/2 × 12 cm and OM = 1/2 × 12 cm
AM = 6√3 cm and OM = 6 cm
⇒ AB = 2 AM 2
= 2 × 6√3 cm
= 12√3 cm
Area of ΔAOB = 1/2 × AB × OM
= 1/2 × 12√3 cm × 6 cm
= 36 × 1.73 cm2
= 62.28 cm2
Area of segment AYB = Area of sector OAYB - Area of ΔAOB 1
= 150.72 cm2 - 62.28 cm2
= 88.44 cm2

AD/AE= sin 45° ⇒ 30/AE= 1/√2 1

⇒ AE = 30√2 = 30 x 1.414 = 42.42 m 1
Hence , the bird is flying at a distance of 42
.42m from the girl.

⇒1/√3=h/4+x

⇒1/√3=h/4+3+h

⇒7+h=√3h ⇒√3h−h=7

⇒h(√3−1)=7
(∵x=(3+h)m)
⇒ h=7/√3−1=7/1.732−1=9.56 m

Now, sin45∘=AB/AE⇒1/√2=3+h/y

⇒ y=(3+h)√2=(3+9.56)1.414=17.76 m
