Subject: Request to teach HVAC Modules for Architecture Students in Building Services, S5 semester
Respected Sir,
I would like to request your support in appointing a faculty to teach selected topics of Building Services – HVAC to our
architecture students of 5th semester. These topics fall under Module III and Module IV of the course curriculum and
require expertise in Mechanical Engineering for better clarity and practical understanding.
The topics to be covered are as follows:
Module III: Principles of Refrigeration
• Capacity, Coefficient of Performance (COP), Carnot refrigeration cycle
• Vapor compression systems – Theoretical and practical cycles
• Thermodynamic analysis using P-H diagram
• Standard refrigerants including eco-friendly refrigerants and their properties
• Refrigeration system components: Compressors, Condensers, Expansion devices, Evaporators, Cooling towers
Module IV: Air Conditioning Systems
• Room air conditioning systems: Window A/C, split packaged systems, central and unitary systems
• Summer, winter, and year-round air conditioning systems
• Cooling load calculation and various heat sources
• Design of air conditioning systems – AHU, duct design, and air distribution systems (draft, throw,
entertainment ratio, spread)
• Location of air outlets and return air openings, considerations in duct design and layout
• Noise and noise control, determination of duct size using equal friction (constant pressure loss) method
• Sustainable design approaches: insulation materials, energy-efficient techniques for HVAC systems
• Awareness of VRF system design, diversity factor in HVAC, district cooling system
• Heating systems and modern sustainable solutions such as heat pumps
We believe that an expert in Mechanical Engineering will greatly enhance the students’ technical knowledge and
enable them to integrate these systems effectively into architectural design.
We kindly request you to appoint a faculty to take sessions for the above-mentioned topics at a mutually convenient
schedule.
We kindly request your approval to proceed with the necessary arrangements and allocate a suitable time slot.
Thanking you in anticipation of your support.
Sincerely,
Ar Sukriti Gopalakrishnan
