Inner Coach vs Inner Critic Worksheet

Objective: To identify how your inner critic speaks and to replace those negative thoughts with
more positive and encouraging ones from your inner coach.

Step 1: Recognize Your Inner Critic


Write the negative thoughts you hear from your inner critic. These thoughts are
often harsh, judgmental, and discouraging.

Situation Inner Critic Thought


Example: I made a mistake at work. "You’re always messing up. You’ll never get it right."
I Forgot my meds Dumbass you take them everyday how can you
forget?
You didn't go see the kids They are going to be mad and not want to
see you anymore

Step 2: Activate Your Inner Coach


For each negative thought, write down a positive, encouraging response from
your inner coach. Your inner coach speaks with kindness, understanding, and
motivation.

Inner Critic Thought Inner Coach Response


"You’re always messing up. You’ll never get it right." "Everyone makes mistakes, and I learn from them. I
can improve next time."
