LESSON ONE
THE DESCENT/COMING OF THE HOLY SPIRIT ACTS 2:1-45 (READING NOTE)
Then they gathered around him and asked him, “Lord, are you at this time going to restore the
kingdom to Israel?”
He said to them: “It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own
authority. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my
witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
After he said this, he was taken up before their very eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight.
They were looking intently up into the sky as he was going, when suddenly two men dressed in
white stood beside them. “Men of Galilee,” they said, “why do you stand here looking into the
sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same
way you have seen him go into heaven.”
When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. And suddenly a sound
came from heaven like the rush of a mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were
sitting. And there appeared to them tongues as of fire, distributed and resting on each one of
them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues, as the
Spirit gave them utterance.
This passage recounts the events leading up to and following Jesus' ascension into heaven and
the coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost.

THE PROMISE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
The disciples asked Jesus if He would restore the kingdom to Israel at that time, but Jesus
told them it was not for them to know the timing set by God. Instead, He promised them power
through the Holy Spirit, who would enable them to be His witnesses across the world.
After saying this, Jesus ascended into heaven, hidden by a cloud. Two men in white
appeared, telling the disciples that Jesus would return the same way He ascended. Later, during
Pentecost, the Holy Spirit descended on the disciples, filling them and enabling them to speak in
different languages.
LESSON TWO DAYS OF THE EARLY CHURCH
SUMMARY OF ACTS 5:1-16
In Acts 5:1-16, the story of Ananias and Sapphira is recounted. This couple sold a piece
of property but deceitfully kept back part of the money for themselves while pretending to give
all of it to the apostles.
Peter confronted Ananias about his deception, and Ananias immediately fell dead. Later,
when his wife Sapphira repeated the lie, she too fell dead. This incident led to great fear among
the people.
Despite this, the apostles continued to perform many signs and wonders among the
people, gathering at Solomon's Colonnade. Although some feared joining them, many others
believed, and the number of followers grew.
People brought the sick into the streets, hoping Peter’s shadow might fall on them and
heal them. As a result, more people were healed, and word of the apostles' power spread.
SUMMARY OF ACTS 6:1-7
In Acts 6:1-7, a problem arose in the early Christian community when the Greek-
speaking Jews (Hellenists) complained that their widows were being overlooked in the daily
distribution of food.
The apostles, realizing they could not neglect preaching the Word of God to manage these
practical matters, asked the community to choose seven men full of the Spirit and wisdom to
handle the distribution. One of those chosen was Stephen, described as a man full of faith and the
Holy Spirit.
After this, the apostles were able to focus on prayer and teaching, and the Word of God
spread. The number of disciples in Jerusalem increased significantly, and even many priests
became obedient to the faith.
