Should AI Tools Be Allowed in Indonesian Schools?

Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools such as ChatGPT, Grammarly, and


Google AI are now widely used by students in Indonesia. Many
students use these tools to help them do homework, understand
lessons, and improve their writing. However, the use of AI in schools
has become a topic of debate.
On one hand, AI tools have several advantages. First, they can help
students learn independently. When students do not understand a
lesson, they can use AI to get explanations at any time. Second, AI can
improve students’ writing skills by helping them check grammar and
vocabulary. This is very helpful for students who are learning English as
a foreign language. In addition, AI can save time for both students
and teachers.

On the other hand, there are also disadvantages. Some students may
become too dependent on AI and stop thinking critically. They might
copy answers without understanding the material. Moreover, the use
of AI can lead to academic dishonesty, such as cheating during
assignments or exams. Not all schools in Indonesia also have equal
access to technology, which can create unfair learning conditions.
In conclusion, AI tools have both benefits and risks. Schools should not
completely ban AI, but they should make clear rules about how
students can use it. With proper guidance from teachers, AI can be a
useful learning tool without reducing students’ responsibility and
honesty.
