“The Experience That Made Me Choose English Education”

When I was in junior and senior high school, my favorite subject was always English. I
felt excited every time the class started. I usually got good grades, and I thought English was
such a cool subject. The teacher who taught it was also fun and friendly, so learning English
did not feel like studying, it felt more like playing. That was how I started to really enjoy it.

However, after I graduated from high school, I began to feel confused about my future. My
dream since I was a child was to become a doctor. However, I realized that I was not very good
at counting, and I easily got bored with subjects that involved many calculations. Still, I tried
to apply to medical school several times. For a year, I worked hard and kept trying, but things
did not go as I hoped. I started to feel tired and insecure, as if I was not well-prepared to chase
my dream.

At that point, I started to think about another path. I tried to look at what I was actually good
at and what I really enjoyed. Then I remembered how much I liked English. So, I decided to
take English Education as my plan B and applied to a private university in my city. To be
honest, I was a little disappointed at first because my plan A did not work out. But life must go
on, right? Maybe God has another plan for me.

At the beginning of college, I was quite confident because I used to get good grades in English
at school. I thought studying English at university would feel the same. However, I was wrong.
In high school, I was only used to learning and memorizing, not understanding deeply. When
my teacher asked me to memorize dialogues, I could do it quickly, but I did not really know
what the sentences meant. I also did assignments fast, but without fully understanding the
purpose. College felt completely different. I honestly felt overwhelmed and a bit sad, because
even in something I thought I was good at, I still had many weaknesses in writing, listening,
grammar, and speaking.

Fortunately, my lecturers are very kind and patient. They guide me step by step, and little by
little, I have started to grow. I am beginning to understand that learning English is not only
about grades or memorization, but also about improving how we think, express, and
communicate.

Another reason I chose English Education is because English is an international language. It


opens many doors for future opportunities, especially in work. And honestly, one of my
personal reasons is because I dream of having a foreign partner someday. I know it sounds a
little bit funny, but there is nothing wrong with dreaming, right?

Now, I believe that God brought me here not to waste my time, but to show me a new path.
Maybe this is where I truly belong. where I can grow, learn, and discover more about myself.
