DRAFTING A VIRTUAL MESSAGE

How to attempt this question:

In this activity, you have to convert a virtual telephone


conversation/audio chat into a brief written message for a third
person in about 50–100 words.

While writing the message, it is important to include the


following:
(i) Date
(ii) Time
(iii) Name of the person for whom the message is intended
(iv) Body of the message
(v) Name of the writer/sender

You must write only the most important points. Do not add any
new information.

You must use grammatically correct sentences, or it may convey a


wrong meaning.

Use indirect speech and simple language.


Marking Scheme:

Content – 2 marks
Sequence / Flow of ideas – 1 mark
Appropriateness (language usage) – 1 mark
Total – 4 marks

Imagine, Shubham has to leave for his native place due to
emergency work. He and his friend Mahesh had planned to
watch a movie at 8.30 p.m. Shubham tried to call Mahesh several
times but due to connectivity issues he is unable to contact him.

Draft a virtual message in about 50–100 words to Mahesh to


convey this information. Support your message by giving
appropriate reasons.

Mahesh,
I am sorry I will not be able to make it for the movie tonight. A
sudden emergency has cropped up and I am about to leave for
my native place near Satara. My grandmother urgently needs
my signature on some forms. I tried to call you but there were
network problems. I will call you as soon as I return. We can fix
a fresh date for the movie.

Mr Garg rang up at 5 p.m. while you were at the meeting. He
said he had received the soft copies and posters and would come
tomorrow to express his thanks to you. He also said he would
hand over the cheque to you personally.

Since Mr Singh had gone for his morning walk, he left a message for
his son Ranajit. Draft a message in about 50 words.

tomorrow at the Asha Old-age Home. She had promised to bring some
saplings from your garden. She knows which ones. The programme is at
10 a.m. Tell her to bring a tulsi plant also, as the present one has dried
up. And oh yes, and some manure too. I will pick her up at 9.45 a.m. I
have to go for a meeting now, and she will not be able to contact me.
Priya: I’ll tell her, aunty. Goodnight.

Mummy,
Radhika aunty had called to tell you that there is a tree plantation
