I. Objectives
A. Content Standard: The learners demonstrate their multiliteracies and communicative
competence in evaluating informational texts (expository texts and journalistic texts: news
and press releases, and features) for clarity of meaning, purpose, and target audience as a
foundation for publishing original informational texts.
B. Performance Standard: The learners analyze the style, form, and features of informational
texts (expository texts, news and press releases, and features); evaluate informational texts for
clarity of meaning, purpose, and target audience; and compose and publish original
multimodal informational texts (expository texts, news and press releases, and features) using
appropriate forms and structures that represent their meaning, purpose, and target audience.
At the end of the lesson, the student will be able to:

What did you notice about the activity?
How about number 3 with the arrow? What Answer may vary
does it tell your eyes to do? Does it guide you
where to look?
Let’s take a look at number 5, even if you
cannot touch it, how does it feel just by looking
at it?
All these pictures have something in common,
they help send a message without using many Answer may vary
words.
So class, if text use lines, shapes,
directions,sizes,textures, and colors to help
readers understand the message, what do you
think we call these features?
Excellent! These are called Text Visual
Elements, and that will be our lesson for today.
C. Discussion (Practicing Skill No. 1)
A visual element is any characteristic that
readers can see, which includes lines,
shapes, sizes, textures, colors, and value.
When these illustrations go with the texts,
they significantly increase comprehension
of the meaning of the texts. Interactive
images help readers understand the
meaning of various vocabulary.
Basic Visual Elements
1. Graphs - are a common method to
visually illustrate relationships in the data.
They are used to interpret current data and
make predictions for guided
comprehension and decision making.
Examples:
2.
Charts - are graphical representations of
data. They help visualize data to uncover
patterns, trends, relationships, and structure
of the shared data.
Examples:
3. Tables - are arrangements of information
or data either in rows or columns or
sometimes in more complex structures.
They are used to organize detailed
complicated data to be described accurately
in a text.
Examples:
4. Photographs - are images captured
using cameras. They record moments in
time to preserve memories and events.
They may be either printed or digital,
serving as visual record. In informational
texts, they help readers visualize things
realistically making the information easier
to understand.
Examples:
5. Diagrams - are drawings that can help
readers understand information about the
topic. Diagrams are useful tools in
expository texts because they help illustrate
facts and information for the learners. They
help readers understand texts more easily
and help in expressing views and
meaningful insights of the topic.
Examples:
6. Maps - are also visual representations of
an area or region. They show the
relationship between places and their
features, including boundaries, to help
people navigate, locate, and understand
geographical information.
Examples:
Special Visual Elements
1. Vectors - are visual elements used to
represent quantities that emphasize
direction and magnitude, which refers to
length. They are usually represented by
arrows in diagrams and graphics to show
relationships between objects, forces, or
movements. Vectors, too, help visualize
complex concepts, especially in physics
and engineering. Using vectors in various
illustrations can provide clear and concise
ways to communicate information for
better comprehension by all readers.
Examples:
2. Technical Editing - refers to reviewing,
evaluating, and critiquing written texts with
accuracy, clarity, and consistency in
technical documents. It involves analyzing
and revising content like grammar and
syntax to improve its organization, style,
and tone as per requirement. Technical
editors follow standards in editing and
critiquing to help authors communicate
again complex information clearly as well
as facilitate the learning of the readers,
particularly to their target young learners.
Example:
Original:
“The device can be used in order to
make a connection between the
computer and the printer.”
Edited (Technical Editing):
“The device is used to connect the
computer to the printer.”
3. Animation - is the art of creating motion
and the illusion of movement. It involves
displaying a sequence of static images or
frames in rapid succession to create the
impression of movement and tell a clear
story or message to the audience.
Meanwhile, text animation is the process
that involves taking an actual text itself and
adding gradient or glitch effects, or making
it bounce, spin, and even rotate. Kinetic
typography is the technical name for
moving texts.
