1. a) The square tiles are used to build a floor measuring 12m by 16m. The tiles present are of
different sizes and only whole ones are used. If the greatest size of the tile is to be used, how
many tiles are expected to be used to build the floor?

b) A car uses 7.25 litres of petrol to travel 98.6 kilometres. How many kilometres do it travel
using 1 litre of petrol?

c) If 𝑥 = 0. 8̇ 3 5̇ and 𝑦 = 0.83̇, find the value of 𝑥 − 𝑦 and express the result in fraction form.

2. a) A swimming pool can be filed two pipes P and Q in 48 minutes. If pipe Q alone can fill this
pool in 2 hours, how long will it take for pipe P alone to fill the pool?

3. a) In order to pass an examination, a candidate must obtain a minimum average of 60 marks in


two tests. If Simfosiliana obtained 54 marks in the first test, find the lowest possible marks she
would obtain in the second test in order to pass the examination.

b) The area of a trapezium whose height is 8𝑐𝑚, is, 236𝑐𝑚2. If one of its parallel sides is longer
than the other by 4𝑐𝑚, find the length of the two parallel sides.

b) A rectangular garden is 6 metres wide and 8 metres long. What length should be added to the
shorter side and reduced from the longer side to form a rectangular garden with an area of 45

5. a) A clothing store sells T-shirts in only three colours; red, blue and green. The colours are in
the ratio of 3 to 4 to 5, respectively. If the store has 20 blue T-shirts, how many T-shirts are
there in the store?

6. a) Catherine is a civil engineer who works at the road construction project. The road needs to
have a slope of 0.04 for proper drainage. If the horizontal length is 600 metres, what should be
the vertical length of elevation?

(b) The translation T moves the point in x-y plane three steps to the right and two
stapes downward. Find the image of points A (-1, 2) and B (3,-4).

of the tower to concrete anchors sunk in the ground. If the cables are to make an angle of 300
with the horizontal, how many metres of cables will be required? (Give your answer in
kilometres)

10. (a) In a survey of the dinning preference of students at University of Dar es Salaam,
the following facts were discovered about Manzese and Daruso cafeterias. 21 liked Manzese
only, 63 liked Manzese, 55 liked Daruso and 34 liked home cooking.
(i) Draw a Venn diagram to represent the information above.
