Transmission Line Analysis Tutorial 2025

This document is a tutorial sheet for the IV Semester B.E. EEE course EE3401 on Transmission and Distribution, prepared by Dr. S. Narthana for the academic year 2025-2026. It includes three questions related to the analysis of transmission lines using the Nominal-T method, focusing on parameters such as load, voltage, and line constants. The tutorial aims to evaluate the performance of various transmission lines as per the course objectives.

TUTORIAL SHEET
Degree, Semester& Branch: IV Semester B.E. EEE
Course Code & Title: EE3401 & Transmission and Distribution
Name of the Faculty member: Dr. S. Narthana
Tutorial No.: 4 Date:
Questions:

1. A 132 kV, 50 Hz, 3-phase transmission line delivers a load of 50 MW at 0.8 p.f. lagging at

∠1.4º; B = 96 ∠78º; C = 0.0015 ∠90º. Find the regulation of the line and charging
the receiving end. The generalized constants of the transmission line are: A = D = 0.95

current. Use Nominal-T method.

[CO2, L2]

2. A balanced three phase load of 30 MW is supplied at 132 kV, 50 Hz and 0.8 p.f. lagging
by means of a transmission line. The series impedance of a single conductor is (20 + j52)
Ω and total phase neutral admittance is 315 × 10 -6 Siemens. Using Nominal T method
determine (i) A, B, C and D constants of the line (ii) sending end voltage and (iii)
regulation of the line. [CO2, L3]

3. A 150 km, three phase, 110 kV, 50 Hz transmission line transmits a load of 40,000 kW at
0.8 p.f. lagging at the receiving end. Resistance/km/phase = 0.15Ω; reactance/km/phase =
0.6 Ω; Susceptance/km/phase = 10−5 S. Determine (i) the A, B, C and D constants of the
line (ii) regulation of the line. [CO2, L3]

CO2: Evaluate the performance of the various transmission lines

L1: Remember; L2: Understand; L3: Apply
