Welcome to this presentation on Antenna Array Examples Simulation using MATLAB. In this
session, we are going to show how to perform simulations related to antenna arrays in
MATLAB. The antenna array functions are available as commands in the MATLAB command
window.

At the same time, we do have a special toolbox for designing antennas. Students doing
projects can use both of them, either the antenna array toolbox or the command window to
simulate their projects. Today, I am going to demonstrate how to work a few commands
related to antenna design in the command window.

First, I want to create a circular array. For this, we are going to create a circular antenna
array. This can be used to perform applications related to Direction of Arrival, DOA.

You can use circular arrays to perform 2D scanning while lowering the element counts.
These arrays have the ability to perform a 360 degree scanning. The impact of edge effects
and other coupling variations are all reduced in the array, which is used for this simulation.

Now, I am creating the circular array using the command. This is the command which I am
using to create a circular array with the number of elements 10. You can select as per your
wish.

Just type this command and once you enter, it creates the circular array. Upon this created
array, you can check how the array is created. For this, I am creating a figure.

Now, the figure is ready. I want to view the layout of this figure. Now, I am giving the
command layout of the circular array which has been created.

It may take some time. Now, you can see the array layout. There is one more way to view.

We can view the circular array of dipole antennas. This is figure 1. I will create one more
figure. I will give the name as figure 2. Now, I have created another figure.

In this, I will try to show the dipole antennas. I will try to show how they are placed. This is
the circular array which is composed of dipole antennas.

What I am demonstrating now, they are all basic commands related to antenna design.
Students doing projects related to antennas, there is no doubt that they will perform some
more advanced operations such as reconfiguring the layout. They may try for noise
reduction.

Many more advanced functions can be done. What is dealt in this lecture? They are only
basic commands related to circular array. You can go for other antenna configurations also.

That is beyond the scope of this class. Let me try for the next command. I will create a new
figure.
Now, I want to plot the elevation pattern for a particular frequency. Let us say 50
megahertz. For this, I am using the command.

It is 50 megahertz. I will give it as 50 exponent of 6. The antenna toolbox is now preparing to

make the plot. At 50 megahertz, what is the directivity that is shown here? Again, here you
can see that the peaks data set is also available.

Similarly, you can go for linear antenna arrays also. Same like circular array. A similar
command can be used to create linear arrays also.

At this point, I want to illustrate or mention few additional commands related to this. For
this object, which we have created CA, you can find the array factor, beam width, charge,
correlation between two antennas, the current distribution in the antenna. Like this, many
additional functions can be done upon this object CA, which we have created.

Now, I will switch on to the linear array. For this, I will give the command. Just I am clearing
the screen.

Now, I will create a linear array. A linear array we have created. I will change the number of
elements.

As per your design requirements, you can change the number of elements. I will make
number of elements is equal to 4. Then, I will give the layout of this array is given here. Next
stage, I want to plot the radiation pattern of the four elements that are present in the
antenna, which we have designed now.

I will create one figure. I will name it as figure 5. This is figure 5. In figure 5, I will create the
radiation pattern at 50 hertz. So, pattern for the element what we have created at 50
megahertz.

It is not hertz, it is 50 megahertz. At 50 megahertz, what is the pattern that I want to check
now? This is the radiation pattern for the four elements at 50 megahertz. With this, I am
stopping this basic introduction.

Additional classes, if someone is interested in learning some more commands, they can
check our other videos related to antenna design. Advanced researchers can join the course
which we conduct on MATLAB. Those courses you can register.

We have 10-day courses specially formulated for doctorate students. If you want to learn
the application of MATLAB in depth, you can join those courses also.
